TRANSPORT MECHANISM Fig. | 1. CAPSTAN DRIVE Figure 1 (A) Motor (18) Drive Belt (Mat belay (€) Capstan (1) Fiywhee! High-speed rotation of Motor (A) is transmitted by Drive Belt (B) to Capstan {CV which & connected 10 4 flywheel that provides necessury inertia. This flywheel ‘maintains the cated rotation aad absorbs minor rotation variations ofthe motor Capstan Rotation (606 LPM. at 7.1/2" (19 em} per see. 303 RIM. at 33/47 (9.5 cm} per sec. 151.5 RPM, at 1-7/8" (4,75 om per sec Motor Rotation 3,000 to 1,00 RPM. at SO Hz 3,600 to 1,800 RPM. at 60 Hz 2. PINCH WHEEL DRIVE The pressure of the pinch wheel as it pushes against capitan, transports tape between rotating capstan and pinch wheel at the rated speed. The proper pinch wheel pressure Is between 1.000 te 1,150 prams at the tape speed af 7-1/2" (09 ean) per second 3. RECORD AND PLAYBACK MECHANISM Taming the RECORDIPLAYBACK LEVER (A) “PLAY” position causes the pinch whee! 1o press against the capstan andl move the Lape atthe rated speed. AL the same time, filfer (HE moves between Alotor Huslung (CY and the Fake-tip teed Spinal (0) ta transmit ele mertor rotation to (D) so that the tape is moved and wound on the take-up teel, The Take-up Reel Spindle Mase, composed oF two plastic wheels (discs) (1 stud 2) wath a felt clutch between, is rotated from below by the idler. Tape-winding friction is adjusted by the dipping of the felt and maintains rated winding of the tape. Tike Supply Reef Spindfe (HY has a Brake Roller (E> contacting plastic wheel (disc) (4) fram below which provides appropriate hack tension by the slipping of the felt clutch to the rotation of the Pulley (3) above. To prevent accidental exasute, the Recont Safety Button (EV must be depeessed before the RECORD/PLAYBACK LEVER can be moved to the “REC” position. Safety device (G) is depressed to operate the recording mech nism (See Figure 2) 4. FAST-FORWARD MECHANISM Turing the FAST FWEREWIND LEVER (A) t “FAST FWD" position, causes cam (B) under the knob to push up Lever (C). idler (D) maves into the space hetween Mastic Roller (F) abowe the Take-Up Reel Spindle and the upper part of she rotating moter drive bushing to transmit the motor rptation to the take-up reel spindle. At the sume time, rake Rollers (H) and (I) come off the reel spindle to free Supply Reel Spindles 1G) and (FI, thereby allowing fast winding of the tape sca the take-up seel. (See figure 3) 5, REWIND MECHANISM Tuming the FAST FWD.REWIND knob (A) 10 “REWIND” position, causes com (B) under the knob 10 prealt up Lever {Ch Kier (D) owes into the space between the upper purt of the rotating Motor drive bwhing (E) and the intermediate Pulley (F) to transtnit the high-speed rotation of the motor through the intermediate pulley to Supply Reel Spindle (G). At the fame time, Broke Rollers (H} and {Ip come off the reel spindle to free take-ap reel suites (3) and (Gp, thereby sewinding the tape onto the supply reel at « fost speed. (See figure 4) 6. STOP CONTROL Turning the stop lever to “STOP™ position, causes Brake Rollers (A) atwl (B) to depress the reel spindles and stop rotation, As the brake mubbers depress the plastic rollers helow the reel spindles, ne Frietion is applied to the tape {Sce figure 5) Meme Operation, cM be see | sate esto ef |e | | seme © [be] x | « Recan a) & NOTLS : ares indicates “open” ana snaths “ensiged RECORD/PLAYBACK CHANGING MECHANISM When the RECORDIPLAYBACK LEVER (§) is turned to play position, RECORD/PLAYBACK CHANGING SWITCH (SW) dues stot operate and rermins five in play mode. By turning the RECORD/PLAYBACK LEVER (N) co the recording position, CAM (a) pushes ARM (b). as illustrated by the dotted Line. ARM (1) then pulls ARMS (a) and (e), which are joined to the RECORD! PLAYBACK CHANGING SWITCH (SWI), to the reeor- position If ARMS (1), () and (e} dor not work: properly, (SWI) does noi operaie properly, abnormal oscillation may cece, and recording eannot take place, The ARMS mast be adjusted properly by loagening SCREWS (1) and (x). Vi. MECHANISM ADJUSTMENT 1, PINCH WHEEL ADIUSTMENT, In fs important shat the pinch wheel shatt be kept in perfect the capstan shaft.
