Description:

Powerful and shape-shifting creatures, the Jinn possess

free will and a complex nature. They are not inherent-
ly good or evil but have the capacity for both. Like
humans, they experience emotions, possess intellect, and
can make choices. While some Jinn are benevolent and
supportive of humans, others can be mischievous, mali-
cious, or even malevolent.

Jinn possess incredible supernatural powers, such as

telepathy, teleportation, superhuman strength, and the
ability to grant wishes.

Sightings:

At a boarding school in the middle east a bully broke

a student’s necklace. As soon as that happened, the girl
started to speak in a male voice while her body con-
torted in strange positions. It said it was a jinn and
had traveled from a faraway place.

Simultaneously, the bully’s tongue swelled and almost

prevented her from breathing.

The parents apparently knew their daughter was pos-

sessed by a Jinn had gotten the necklace from a shaman
that told them it would hold the Jinn in.

 Exploring the Mysteries of the Afterlife
From Paramedicine to Paranormal

So, I have decided to start “The Sharpe Side

Being in emergency medicine you see all kinds of injuries and
more tragically death, which always had me wondering, what
happens after we die? And, is it true that we stick around if we
have unfinished business? I am a National Registered EMT
and up until last October I was on track to being a paramed-
ic, literally two months away from completing the program.
However, that changed. I decided to play it safe and went back
to my logistics job where I can focus more time answering
the question, what happens when we die? We as humans fear
death because it’s the unknown, the only thing in life that is
absolute. Death doesn’t have to be a negative thing. I personal-
ly think that death can be a beautiful thing.
I have always been fascinated with the paranormal. Growing
up in a small town in Ohio with really not much to do, I decid-
ed to read books like “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” or even
“Haunted Ohio” to further my curiosity. June 2000 had me
questioning many things when, the night before the passing of
my grandfather, I had a dream he passed. It was that Father’s
Day 2000, my father called me, crying that Grandpa Sharpe
had passed. Was this just my 10-year-old brain processing the
fact he was sick or was it something more? This is a question
that I want to answer, I may never get that answer but that
isn’t going to stop me from trying to figure it out.

I joined a public paranormal investigation
with my wife last July at the Indiana State
Sanatorium and from there, I was hooked.
The whole night was a crazy experience.
While we were waiting for the groups to
get together, I peeked in the kitchen be-
tween the nursing home and the residen-
tial building, and I immediately felt dread
and a bit nauseous. I told the one tour
guide and she advised me that she had the
same feeling there. Now I was part of a
group of about 15 people during our group ro-
tations. We started on the 3rd floor of the psychiatric hospital;
I kept getting bad feelings about the place and then the most
shocking thing happened to me, or at least at the time it was.
I was standing next to another member of the group when a
shadow figure just came out of a room and rushed in between
us before disappearing.
The night progressed to the point where our group was in the
nursing home section of the building. We were doing exercises
in the dark, including the walk down the hallway solo, in the
dark, while I was waiting for my turn, something grabbed my
right leg. There was nothing close to me, the nearest person
was about 10 feet away. So, when it was my turn, I got maybe
5 feet before I chickened out. We then did another experiment
where they placed each of us in the doorway of the rooms,

places. I could feel the energy of rooms or places. I remember
looking at a house for sale once, I was in the basement and
felt a dark presence, only to learn days later that someone had
been chained up and murdered in that very basement. I also
can feel people out, like I can sense if people are evil or not. I
have been told on many occasions; “Oh this person is a great
person!” just for them to backstab the person I have warned, is
it being sensitive or being a good judge of character? I will let
you, the reader, decide that one.

spaced out, in the dark, but I was placed in the middle of the
nurse’s station. That was until I started screaming because I
saw a white misty figure come out of the linen closet attached
to the nurse’s station. My wife to this day loves to make fun
of me because of it and I really don’t blame her. She is braver
when it comes to stuff like this. Anyway, I digress.
So, our tour guides decided to sit me in a chair in the intersec-
tion of the 4 hallways which gave several other people in the
group the perfect view to see a white nurse figure come out of
the nurse’s station, walk right up to me, place its hand on my
shoulder, and then just disappear. This would be my first real
experience with an entity making physical contact with me. It
felt cold, which was crazy because it was a warm July evening.
This wouldn’t be my last experience with this figure. During
my follow-up visit in April, I was in the middle of an Estes
session when someone in the group told me they saw a white
figure standing behind me, of course, I was sitting in front
of the nurse’s station facing down the hallway. This has left
many questions, who is that nurse? Why does she keep trying
to communicate with me? Is it the fact I was in the medical
field? Is it the fact I can feel their presence? These are the
questions I am out here trying to answer.

lights, and any other device that we deployed.
I have seen groups go into these buildings and be so disre-
spectful to the building and the spirits themselves, which
reminds me a lot of the healthcare industry. I saw other
providers treat patients terribly and that’s not right. Everyone,
including spirits, just wants to be treated with dignity. They
didn’t choose to be stuck there forever but we as investigators
have the opportunity to communicate with them and share
their story with the world. I feel giving those in the afterlife the
opportunity to share their story might give them the closure
they deserve.

Indiana State Sanatorium has this dark and heavy feeling

to it. Considering the tragic history of the location, thou-
sands of people came there to die, many allegedly buried
in unmarked graves. While this is not 100% certain, it
does raise many questions. Combined with the fact that
many patients were abused and neglected, this leaves
them with the desire to reach out. The spirits at Indiana State
Sanatorium take a bit to warm up to strangers but you need to
be careful that you don’t make them angry. I remember during
my visit in April we were doing a dual Estes Session with
me asking the questions. While I was asking the questions I
started taking still photographs with my digital camera and I
will have to admit that it totally freaked me out when we got
the response, “Pictures” I then asked the spirits if it was okay
for me to take their photograph, to which they replied, “No.”
It then quickly went downhill, when I asked if they wanted us
to leave, we got the response, “Yes” and then from the other
person, “Right now!”

That was probably the most intelligent response I have person-

ally experienced. What crosses the line is when people keep
pushing the spirits after they have been warned to stop. This
causes the whole experience to be negative and could lead to
a place where the spirits do not want to interact with people
anymore. We are guests in their home, we should treat it as
such. This is again, very similar to healthcare.

I just recently went on my 3rd ever paranormal investigation

at Poasttown Elementary School in Middletown, Ohio. It was
a completely different vibe; it wasn’t as dark as Indiana State
Sanatorium. The spirits there started early, making noises and
setting off trigger devices. It felt like the spirits there wanted to
play games and were mischievous, as opposed to malevolent.
Going to these locations and reaching out to these lost souls,

Why? How? When?

Now, does that sound familiar to any of you?

Let’s take it a bit further back than ancient Greece and take a look
at the Sumerians.

Parts of their myth have yet to be found, but we know that their
gods An, Enlil, Enki, and Ninhursanga created a nice, comfortable
world for humans and then helped them found the earliest cities
of Eridu, Bad-tibira, Larak, Sippar, and Shuruppak. Then, for
reasons not thoroughly specified, they decide to not save humans
from a massive flood. A king named Zi-ud-sura learns of this plot.
In an Akkadian version of the story called The Atra-Hassis Epic,
Ea (known in Sumerian as Enki), who was the god of the waters,
warns the hero Atrahassis, and gives him instructions on how to
build an ark.

correlations that these last stories had to

Another odd correlation these cultures had was their belief in
monsters. Almost every culture on earth has stories about dragons
and giants. Why? Were these just misidentified fossils?
It would be entirely possible that these were just confused ancient
people who were terrified of a monstrous fossil that they found
while digging for minerals. There have been hundreds of accounts
of giant fossils found across the world, then something happens,
and they are lost or destroyed without a picture being taken. It has
been so common that the Smithsonian has even been involved,
but later, they deny ever possessing them. Why? Is this a conspira-
cy to alter history to their liking or is this to just hide information
that would abruptly shift our understanding of evolution? Or were
they just misidentified by earlier archaeologists?
But there are some odd mentions of this. The Bible mentions
giants, Greek mythology mentions it, Sumerian mythology also
mentions it, and practically every other ancient culture across
the globe has stories about them. But did you know that Jose-
phus Flavius mentioned giants? Yes! He did! Here is a quote from
Josephus:
"For which reason they removed their camp to Hebron; and when
they had taken it, they slew all the inhabitants. There were till then
left the race of giants, who had bodies so large, and countenances
so entirely different from other men, that they were surprising
to the sight, and terrible to the hearing. The bones of these men
are still shown to this very day, unlike to any credible relations of
other men. Now they gave this city to the Levites as an extraordi-
nary reward…"

Josephus mentioned giants several times in his writings, but these
were just second-hand accounts. He himself does not say that he
witnessed these himself, but he explains these as a history. You
can come to your own conclusion there.
But here is another quote from Josephus:
"For many angels (11- This notion, that the fallen angels were, in
some sense, the fathers of the old giants, was the constant opinion
of antiquity.) of God accompanied with women, and begat sons
that proved unjust, and despisers of all that was good, on account
of the confidence they had in their own strength; for the tradition
is, that these men did what resembled the acts of those whom the
Grecians call giants."
This is where Josephus himself attempted to connect the dots.
There are even connections of giants to the crucifixion of Jesus
Christ. How? Well, let’s jump back to Goliath. Josephus surmises
that Goliath was actually 6 feet 9 inches, which is still very tall
for those times, but the KJV Bible claims he was 9 feet 9’ inches.
Some scholars take Josephus as being more accurate and that the
Bible was just mistranslated and miscalculated.
Now, jumping to the hill where Jesus was crucified, it is known as
Golgotha. Some scholars believe that Golgotha is a combination
of Goliath and the name of his home city of Gath. Goliath of Gath
= Golgotha. Some even say that his name was Gol in Philistine,
then they combined that with Gath. Gol of Gath = Goliath. It’s the
same idea, either way you take it. They claim that the hill is where
the decapitated skull of Goliath was buried by David after the fact.
This could be looked at as symbolic of Jesus doing his greatest
miracle right on top of a descendant of the greatest ancient Bibli-
cal atrocity of angels mixing with humanity.
Now, back to Sumerian connections to the Bible. Abram, later
known as Abraham, is said in the Bible to be a descendant of
Noah, and from the city of Ur, the capital city of the Sumerians.
He probably grew up knowing and experiencing the culture of
the bustling city. Ur sits in the area where the Bible mentions the
Garden of Eden as being located. We now know that Ur was one
of, if not the first city in the world. Was this one of the first places
that the descendants of Cain went? Or was that a metaphor for the
sinful Sumerians? Is Ur one of the first places inhabited after the
Great Flood mentioned by all these ancient cultures?
One thing is for sure, The Sumerians laid the groundwork for
many world cultures that came after them, including passing
along their religion. The Ancient Jews would clash with their
predecessors (the Elomites, the Assyrians, The Babylonians, the
Persians, etc.) and thus would also assist with the rise of the Gre-
cian city states by trading of goods, knowledge, and religion.

said he saw this shadow
walking behind me, he
saw it.
The attic was dark, the only light provided by the headlamps
worn by my colleagues Peter Renn and Trevor Palmer and the
red, blue, and green glow created by our equipment. A third
investigator stood nearby filming us. But that didn’t matter. I
was focused on the sounds coming through the headphones I
was wearing. “I just saw a shadow”

listening intently to the audio to see if I heard the same, my
GoPro dangling from my right arm, filming darkness.

Seconds ticked by. Renn played the clip a second time. I heard
it, a “Yes.” Clear as a bell.

“Yeah, I hear it,” I said, smiling. Renn and Palmer grinned

back, excited.

Then a fourth colleague, Olivier Asselin, jumped. Startled, he

took a step back and pointed.
“I just saw a shadow,” he said. “Right behind you.”
“Was it caused by my light?” My GoPro had a light attached to
it.
No. The light pointed away from me, and no other lights were
aimed in my direction, ruling out such a shadow. Especially
one that walked behind me as Asselin said this one did.
This got Palmer excited, as he’s seen shadow figures at Good-
ing University Inn and Resort before. They stand about a
child’s height – roughly four feet – and a head and shoulders
are clearly distinguished.
Renn, Asselin, and I had traveled some eight hundred miles
and fifteen hours from our home in British Columbia, Canada,
to Gooding Idaho to join Palmer’s Western Idaho Paranormal
for a two-day investigation. We’d been at the former tubercu-
losis hospital turned hotel for about two hours and had already
caught a handful of EVPs and spotted a shadow being.
Suffice to say, the trip was worth it.
As paranormal investigators with more than fifty years of
experience between us, Renn, Asselin, and I have visited
hundreds of haunted locations, many with claims of being
highly active. Most of the time these claims turn out to be just
that, and we leave with barely a whisper caught on our audio
recorders.

Not so with Gooding University Inn and Resort.
The owners and past guests claim to hear footsteps running up
and down the second-floor hallway and the voices of chil-
dren throughout the building. Shadows peek out of doorways
and the spirit of what is described as an angry man has been
seen stomping around one of the rooms. The attic (which we
investigated that first night) and the basement are rumored to
house a dark entity.
Such stories attracted Zak Bagans and his Ghost Adventures
TV show as well as bringing Western Idaho Paranormal to
the locations for several years. Palmer said his team has never
been disappointed with a stay.
The inn was originally a college campus that was eventually
donated to the local Methodist Church which, in turn, donated
it to the State of Idaho with the purpose of turning it into a
tuberculosis hospital, said Palmer. It opened in 1947 and re-
mained in operation until 1976, when it was all but abandoned
and several of the buildings bulldozed.
A private buyer purchased the site in 2002 and turned it into
a hotel. New owners recently took over and embraced the
haunted history, opening the facility to groups interested in
exploring the paranormal. Palmer and his team have been in-
vestigating there for twelve years. In fact, the inn was Palmer’s
first paranormal investigation.
Every part of the inn is haunted, from the basement to the
attic. Palmer and his team have seen shadow figures and light
anomalies in the basement, not to mention captured numer-
ous ghostly voices on audio.
“We’ve captured a couple of apparitions on camera too,” Palm-
er said about the basement.
The team has recorded the voice of a small child on the main
floor, which is home to the kitchen and eating area, as well as
some guest rooms. Palmer said they’d also caught a female’s
voice, speaking in a foreign language, on that floor, as well as
footsteps wandering the hallway.
“We also occasionally see shadow people peeking their heads
out of doorways,” he said.
On the second floor, which is home to most of the guest rooms,
footsteps have been heard running up and down the hallway,
and shadow figures have been spotted. One investigator had
her room ransacked when she left it unoccupied.
“She hadn’t slept in her room yet and had done some investi-
gating. When she went in, all her stuff had been thrown about
the room and her bed had been unmade,” said Palmer. “Later
on, we caught the voice of a man who didn’t seem too happy
that we were here.”
A lot of activity has been documented in the attic, said Palmer.
Again, many an EVP has been recorded and disembodied voice
heard, not to mention shadow people seen flitting about, much
like Asselin experienced the first night our team was there. An
investigator claimed a cat brushed against their leg, but no cat
was present.
Pete Kruger is the operations manager and head tech for West-
ern Idaho Paranormal. He is responsible for setting up camer-
as, audio, and other detection devices throughout the Gooding
University Inn. This includes a full-spectrum camera and laser
grid system in the downstairs hallway where shadow beings
have been spotted.
The camera is set to take a picture every ten seconds, hoping
to capture an image of one of these beings, said Kruger. This
particular hallway appears to be home to the spirit of a little

“The camera was bumped, and when it was bumped it ended
up taking a picture of a shadow that was as tall as a ping pong
table, or a little taller than a ping pong table, flying by the
camera,” he said. “So that’s why we have this here. It’s more of
a motion thing in this hallway that we hope to catch.”
Having so much equipment throughout the inn makes for a
daunting task when it comes to reviewing evidence. In fact,
it can take a whole year between investigations to complete

task. Between the three of us, we recorded more than
thirty EVPs and had several personal experiences
which can’t be quantified scientifically, but they hap-
pened, and some were quite profound.

On a personal note, myself and Palmer’s daughter, Alaina,
awoke on the first night to footsteps walking in the sec-
ond-floor hallway. I thought it might be one of the investiga-
tors heading to his or her room, but Alaina got out of bed and
looked into the hallway.
No one was there, and the room I heard the footsteps walking
into was unoccupied in the morning.
These are just a few of the experiences we had while at the
Gooding University Inn. In all honesty, the thirty-six hours
spent there were not enough, and we plan to return for a lon-
ger investigation next year.
Renn has been an investigator for thirty years and explored
haunted locations all over the world. He considers Gooding to
be the most haunted location he’s investigated. I concur and,
although Asselin has only been doing this a couple of years, he
doubts he’ll find a location with more activity.
Our experiences were the hot topic during our fifteen-hour
drive back to Canada, with the consensus being if you want
to find proof of paranormal activity, just spend a night at the

I had the chance to sit down with one of the most energet-
ic and enigmatic personalities in the Paranormal Ryan ‘RPG’
Golembeske. Many might recognize his face from sporadic ap-
pearances on various famous TV shows, but RPG has come to be
known as a Producer of the Paranormal for his work behind
the camera. Traveling across the world, scouting locations, and
pitching ideas that have certainly changed the Paranormal TV
landscape, his affect on the field is something you’ve most like-
ly felt without even knowing it.

I first met RPG a few years ago at The Great Florida Skunk Ape
Conference, of which he is one of the primary organizers and
hosted the most recent conference this year in 2023. He was
high-energy, excited, and genuine right off the bat. I ended up
discussing some of my own research that would go on to be in-
cluded in my book, A Place between Time and Space. He almost
immediately hooked me up with more contacts to help with the
projects, and months later he loaned me a piece of paranormal
tech to try out during my investigations - a device I could never
have afforded on my own! I found much more than a colleague
in RPG, but a friend and a paranormal mentor.

And while he has already changed the Paranormal TV land-

scape, it wasn’t happening fast enough. He’s a person that ra-
diates positivity and excitement, something in contrast to
the edgier themes of TV-Squatching. And so now, like many
innovators in the paranormal field, he’s gone to the indepen-
dent realm where he found the freedom to investigate the
paranormal in his own authentic way. Lately he’s been produc-
ing, and starring in, documentaries like The Skunk Ape Exper-
iments, where he experiments with psychedelics and other
cutting-edge methods, and his new podcast titled, The Podkast,
where he hosts alongside friends of the magazine and guest
writer Matt Williams, and the Outkast Paranormal team. Both
cover a group of Squatchers who have gone full-blown into
investigating the high strangeness connections to everyone’s
favorite fuzzy cryptid Bigfoot.

During my sit down and talk to RPG about his origins in the
paranormal, I asked about some of the high strangeness he’s
been encountering recently in what became a wonderful inter-
view, and a great conversation with a friend. Enjoy:

 “So first of all, thank you for talking with Paranormality Magazine. We’re excited to chat
with you. I know most of our readers probably know you from Expedition Bigfoot,”

“The man who died. Yep.” RPG chuckled, referring to his disappearance from the
show after the first few episodes. I chuckled back and continued:

“Well I had a question later on about that, but I wanted to start with what got, you
started researching Bigfoot? What was the genesis of Bigfoot? Why’d you pick the hairy
guy to research?”

“In a nutshell, my father was in the military, so we moved [frequently], and when
we moved [I was] the kid with the least number of friends and the most amount of
troubles. So, I just got into doing a lot of stuff alone like exploring the woods and
old buildings. And then you have to try to kind of ‘figure out how to be cool.’

 So, then you start thinking things like, ‘Well I’ll go in that
haunted house, or I’ll do this...’ And you have that attitude
of trying to figure out how to make friends and blend in. But
then I get my ass kicked. Another time we were driving back
from Maine and saw this large ‘thing’ or animal on the side of
the road, which I thought at the time was just a bear. I thought
maybe it was on its hind legs, just standing there watching the
traffic. But the way the light hit it, it was nothing more than a
dark shadow, you know?
As we’re driving, I’m kind of annoying my mom and keeping her
awake. Just as I go to look back, and as the thing is going out of
view, I see it turn and disappear into the woods. I was younger,
so I didn’t understand it completely, but I knew when it walked
away, that it was crazy because that thing was tall. Keep in
mind, I’m a kid, so take the height with a grain of salt, but to me,
it was tall.
Then cut to nobody believing me about what I saw and nobody
really caring. But then I remember having that ‘aha moment’
when I’m flipping through those Time Life books that had loch
ness, Bigfoot, UFOs, I mean, it was…a series for the weirdos. I
felt like somebody finally made something for me. And when
I saw the picture containing Sasquatch, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s
what I saw when I was a kid.’
I just, I connect things, you know, like I’m a writer and a produc-
er and I guess a comedian. So, you get something here, you de-
liver it, and then five minutes later you bring it back up, right?
And that’s what’s funny about a joke or that’s what’s good about
TV and other things. So that’s just kind of how my mind works.
That popped for me, you know, and then it was just, ‘This is
scary,’ and I grew up in a family where all the girls on my mom’s
side have gifts - psychic gifts. They see ghosts, and all that stuff,
but they don’t want it.
They’re those people who are like, ‘I got this thing, but I don’t
want anything to do with it. I’ll sleep with the lights on.’ So,
imagine being raised by that. I [ended up] incredibly drawn
towards scary things, right? I don’t want to be like them, but
I am like them, you know? So I have this fear level, but yet I’m
fearless…and then I just pursued it. I don’t want to be afraid,
but fear is awesome if it’s for fun, but being scared to get up and
take a crap at night because there’s a thunderstorm. I mean,
gimme a break, you know? And God forbid you watch one movie
like Jaws at the right age. Even now, if I’m in a swimming pool
at night with the lights on in the pool, I’m scared. I’m still scared
Jaws is going to get me.
Like, that shit’s powerful. And then you take organized reli-
gion and you’re saying this to these kids that are very creative,
very powerful little beings, dude. That’s its powerful mojo. So
anyway, I’ve just been battling that forever and that just spun
me into this world. And I don’t know, I was a kid and we snuck
out at night, what…do you do at night, right? … let’s go to a
haunted house. Let’s do these things in the woods. So, I guess
it’s mostly from being that kind of kid that had no friends, until I
would make groups and then I would mesh with them, but I still
couldn’t really talk about it because they would think I’m weird,
you know? It was like, ‘What does that have to do with sports?
And I’m thinking, ‘Eh, I guess nothing.’
We then took a sidebar discussing how Bigfoot would have been
an excellent football star and ended up discussing Scooby-Doo
and its gateway-drug effect on young weirdos like us. Looking
back to my notebook, I focused on my second question:
“I wanted to ask if you had a number one Paranormal travel location
for us and back up, what’s your favorite vacation spot when you’re
not hunting? The Paranormal? Just relaxing?”
“Yeah, yeah... So are you specifically looking for international or
can it be domestic? Like in terms of just a spectacular location?”
RPG inquired.
“Let’s get one of each. Why not?” I asked, eager at the prospect of
double the info.

“Oh, okay. Well in terms of just vacationing, the main thing I
would say to someone is, and you won’t understand it until
you do it, but plan a trip that is as far out of your comfort zone
and your kingdom as possible. We live in the kingdom of the
United States, so it doesn’t matter where that is. It could also be
Mongolia, or Borneo, or South Africa… find your spot and then
try to dial it into your passion, right? So obviously I was being
sent and I fought super hard for it when we were shooting, I was
gonna go to Borneo to scout this location for a film for a TV show
called Exile. It was an MTV show, and my first. I was all excited
because obviously Orang Pendeck, you know, you’ll appreciate
this as someone that obviously is a bit of a masochist and wants
to ‘earn the story.” he said, referencing my own strange travels
and investigations. He continued:
“You get on a flight and just to get all the way over there through
Malaysia and China and everything, it’s 20 plus hours and then
once you land, I believe the town was called Bario, it’s very
famous for its rice, Bario rice. But you get there and then have
to get on a small plane, fly there to Barrio, then take a car from
there, go to a river, get in these dugout canoes and drive up the
river for two hours. From there, you hike an hour through trails.
When you do those things and you really step away from the
campfire you grew up with, it’s electrifying because there is no
fail-safe. It’s just you, and then you immediately freak and panic
like, what…what have I done, right? And then you realize that
it’s just the same there as it is near you. It just smells and tastes
and feels a little different because it’s new. It’s that wandering
curiosity that I hope we can all keep or find a way to keep it. As a
child, it starts to kick in and the first time is the best time.
Being there and talking to locals about it, I was just trying to
see what they knew. And the funny thing is, usually they like
to mess with you and say things like ‘What are you talking
about?... like a monkey man?’, but usually you find an elder
that’s seen him. And then they would just tell me stories about
him. I remember talking to them, but ultimately I didn’t have
maximum time to speak with them, because I was there to
scout…

When I worked Finding Bigfoot, I was there to do my job, but I
would also squatch every night. We’d go out, and I’d do my own
thing, and it was awesome because I had all these old interviews
and I actually talked with my brother on the phone and that’s
when we decided to finally put our adventures together into a
show as we had always done it off radar. I wasn’t about getting
famous like it is now, you know, getting cameras and everything
involved.
It was just about the rush. It was like the pureness of it, you
know? And so anyway that was a powerful moment. I was there
and I was like, ‘I’m gonna find an Orang Pendek’. Like, why
would I ever? That was the coolest place or the place that I’ll
never forget. [I remember] talking to my brother on the phone,
there was a water buffalo and they had carved a hole in the dirt.
So, this 2000 pound animal is just submerged up to its head with
these massive horns. And I’m sitting here talking to him about
an Orang Pendek and making a show about Paranormal. Dude…
travel is the best, mic-drop.
And if I could share any location with people, everybody wants
to go to Machu Picchu, which ironically, I haven’t even made it
there, so I guess I couldn’t [talk about it and] do it as much [jus-
tice]. I know it’s going to be spectacular. The town just before it
is called Oleum Tambo and it’s a mountain town in the Sacred
Valley. People go there to do downhill mountain biking because
it stretches for miles and miles. But if you go there, once again at
the right time of the year, which I want to say is March… you’re
at about 12,000 to 13,000 feet elevation. So, there’s an altitude
thing you’re dealing with, but if you take it slow it’s fine. You
can see all the potatoes because you know, potatoes come from
Peru - they have over 300 different varieties. We actually learned
how to keep potatoes for years in the ground… But when you
sit up in the fields and they all bloom and it’s all these purple
flowers and it’s rolling fields of purple flowers, it’s like, ‘wow.’
As far as the eye can see down to the sacred valley…you’re going
to shed a few tears and spark up a J if you got it. And you’re
going to wish that everyone you loved was sitting there with you
in that moment - truly spectacular. Anyway, sorry I was a little
rambled, but…”
I cut him off, insisting that it was no ramble. Related it to my
own experience in the Rif Mountains in Morocco, I took a turn

In 2006, another ship was found abandoned on the coast of
Queensland, Australia. Curiously, what we now know is the ves-
sel, the Jain Seng, was located not far from an island said to be
rife with mysterious magnetic forces. The unmanned ship had no
identifying markings and no crew. However, the 80-meter-long
ship was found floating, with a broken tow line, in the shark-in-
fested waters carrying an abundance of rice.
To this day, authorities have not been able to identify the shipÔs
port of registry or its nationality. Could the crew of this
mysterious ship have been sent to a watery grave by a band of
nefarious, one-eyed pirates? Maybe it was the work of a solitary
madman, looking to seek revenge on a blameless crew. Sadly, the
details of this bizarre cliffhanger are as mystifying as the sea
itself.
With the average price of a tanker ship hovering right around
$10 million, a very conservative number, what could possibly be
the reason for abandoning such a pricy, seaworthy vessel? Other
than the exorbitant price of gas today, your guess is as good as
mine.
Back to the ÓCarroll A. DeeringÔ, most of what happened to the
unfortunate ship, is still a mystery. What we do know is that
there was some contention between the captain of the ship and
his first mate. So much so that the first mate found himself
in jail following a deadly threat he made to the captain while
intoxicated. Oddly, it was the captain who eventually bailed his
first mate out of jail, and they once again set sail. Twenty days
later, while en route to Virginia, the Carroll A. Deering hailed a
Cape Lookout lightship off the coast of North Carolina. A tall
thin man with reddish hair held up a megaphone and hollered
that the ship had lost both anchors and chains during a storm.
The man advised that the shipÔs owner should be notified, but
the lightship had no working radio, making communication
impossible.
Later, the Cape Lookout captain said the redheaded man spoke
in broken English, and his speech and manner did not reflect
that of an officer. He had also observed that the shipÔs crew was
milling around on the quarter deck, an area that they would not
ordinarily be permitted to be in. Two days later the ship was
found run aground in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, aka the
Diamond Shoals, abandoned. The rescue teams noted that the
steering section of the ship had been badly damaged. The wheel
had been shattered, the steering equipment disabled, and the
binnacle box was broken. A sledgehammer was positioned pre-
ternaturally nearby. Adding more mystery to the story, it looked
as if the crew were preparing for a meal immediately before
their disappearance.
As was stated earlier, there is no clear explanation concerning
what may have happened aboard the bedeviled schooner, but
history does offer us one more fascinating clue. In April 1921, a
man by the name of Christopher Columbus Gray found a bottle
that washed up along the North Carolina shore. Inside the bottle
was a note that read, ÑDeering captured by oil-burning boat.Ò
The new evidence sparked suspicion and outrage among the
people, with citizens attempting to pin the dastardly deed on
the Russians. Papers began reporting about the possibility of a
Bolshevik, a Communist Party of the Soviet Union, plot.
Fortunately, the fear was unfounded, but the people were still left
with no closure to the shipÔs bizarre mystery. To this day there
are many theories but nothing that marks this strange, nautical
case as closed.
In 1918, 306 crew members went missing from the USS Cyclops.
It remains the largest loss of life in the history of the United
States Navy, not involving combat. The vessel was due to arrive
in Baltimore but never made it. The Proteus-class collier was
thought to have been sunk by a German vessel, however, no one
claimed the shipÔs destruction, or capture. Carrying 11,000 tons
of manganese ore, most thought she may have sunk due to over-
loading, but investigations in Rio confirmed that the vessel had
been loaded, and secured properly. No wreckage has ever been
found, and the case remains unsolved.
The ocean covers more than 70% of our planet and protects
more than 220,000 known species of life. Conversely, itÔs also
home to more than 2 million more forms of life that remain a
mystery. Is there a living breathing, terrifying creature out there
that is causing our brave, young, military men to suddenly jump
ship? Is the middle of the ocean the perfect aquatic lair for an
alien abduction? Are swashbuckling pirates capable of taking
over an entire crew of armed military men? Whether the threat
is coming from above or coming from below, it has successfully
kept us from solving some of the worldÔs strangest mysteries. In
that instance, it appears to be much smarter than us. And unfor-
tunately, for mariners who make the sea their home, even for a
limited time only, itÔs patient.

I Saw Inside The Matrix

One day I was walking to work and all of a sudden had an urge to walk a different path than usual. I work down-
town in a big city. It was a strange spur of the moment urge to walk a different way that changed my life forever.

I turned into an alley I had never seen before. As I remember it, I made it about fifteen feet or so when an actu-
al “glitch” happened. Everything in my mind scrambled. I felt like I didn’t have a body anymore, just that I was a
semi-conscious entity floating Athrough some weird dimension. All of a sudden in the array of different colors and
shapes a vision came to me. It was a bunch of strange looking people that in my mind resembled businessmen in
suits. They looked startled and panicked that I could see them. One of the “people” made a quick movement and
everything turned to black.

When I regained normality, I was on a completely different street. It was the same street that I always use to walk
to work. I felt sick, and severely disturbed/depressed.

I’ve never done any hard drugs, never experienced any hallucinations, never have had anything like this happen
to me. The weird thing is, when the glitch was correcting itself and I could see those “people” watching me like a
caged animal, I had the feeling that I knew I was being controlled. It still bothers me very much to this day.

My Dream Saved My life Years After I Had It

My dream was simple: I was driving down from the mountains back home with friends in the car after (what I
vaguely remember) was a snowboard skiing trip. The conversation was I suppose the usual for a long car ride, “I
spy this” and just stupid stuff. Then, Smash Mouth’s “All Star” came on. I remembered it because everyone started
singing along. Speeding down the mountain, and after signaling into the passing lane, all of a sudden a huge car
wreck happens right in front of us, happening so fast cars smashed into each other, and one of the cars involved
rolling off the mountain over the divider. I was too close to avoid it, and so I pulled to the right, which caused the
car behind us to plow into the side of us, rolling our car to the opposite side of the road. I remember just a fuzzy
feeling, upside down and just glancing around the car and just seeing my friends mutilated, just... it sends shivers
down my spine to even think about it. I wake up and in tears, I was just so frightened and scared... it was so surre-
al.

This is where the glitch begins, After years passing from the night of the dream, my friends and I decided to get
together to plan a small trip to have a ski and snowboard day for the first snowfall. We knew a storm was coming
so we headed up the mountain. Good runs, fresh snow, it was overall a great success; we had gotten exactly what
we had come for. We packed our things [and] headed down the mountain, and it clicked - the same stupid car ban-
ter, “I spy”, and then Smash Mouth’s “All Star” came on... it happened, I was in my nightmare.

The wreck happened just as I remembered, but I didn’t pull right as I did in my dream; I pulled to the left, into the
opposite lane, and some how just avoided it. Everything slowed down, it was like I was in my own world, and ev-
erything happened the same except for my actions. We pulled to the side of the road and called 9-1-1.

I broke down; it was too much... I was again scared and shaking, but some how that stupid dream saved my life.

The Eerie Encounters at Durham's Oldest Inn
My name is Elaine Kelly, and I am the lead investigator
for Spectre Detectors, one of the North East of England’s
most hard-working team of paranormal investigators.
We work extremely hard to bring you evidence of the
spirit world, watching and listening to hours of footage
from each investigation.
As a team, we have been investigating for 12 years and
have visited some amazing buildings in England and
Scotland.
This article is about our investigation at The Shake-
speare Tavern at Durham, which is said to be one of the
oldest and most haunted inns within the city.
The name “Durham” comes from the Old English word
for hill, “dun” and the Norse for word for island, “holme.”
The legend of the Dun Cow and the milkmaid also con-
tributes to the naming of this county town and Dun Cow

city. The legend follows the journey of a group of Lindis-
farne monks carrying the body of the Anglo-Saxon Saint

During a ghost walk at Durham, we investigated the
passage that goes along the side of the Shakespeare
Tavern. We were aware of children being made to work
as prostitutes and as we did a portal session, we heard a
girl’s voice. The portal said Emily and talked about many

in the city so it could have been referring to that.
We were aware of a

stood there my hand

I had sent them photographic evidence of what we had
caught in the alley at the side of the tavern and asked if
we could investigate to feature it in our next book about
Durham. They said that they would allow it and the date

the oldest, most haunted pub in Durham City.
We met Michelle and Chloe outside and led us up the
alley to the side of the tavern and in through the side
door. You could feel the energy as soon as you entered
the building and could feel the layers of energy.
None of us had been in before so after a little chat about
what would happen during the evening, we made our

said lots of activity happened.
Michelle also opened the door at the bottom of the stairs

bringing the whole kit as it was bigger than I thought,
but we only had a few hours to investigate it and I didn’t
want to waste time setting it up.
We all settled down in what is now the gin bar and
started the investigation. Firstly, we sat in the quiet
to see what we were picking up. We used our medium-
ship to see if we could link with spirits before using any
equipment. Shayna was aware of the name Howard and
felt that he would sit with people to get free drinks, but
people didn’t seem to mind. As she was telling this to us,
we caught a man groaning on the voice recorder. We also

lady had been badly treated and was battered. I asked if
they would talk to me if I put the portal on.
Shayna felt that someone had sold their wife as a prosti-
tute. I agreed that whoever this lady was, was also sold
for prostitution. I felt like a punching bag, and Shayna
wondered if that was why I had a problem with my ear
outside.

ming and luckily it was caught on the voice recordings.

that someone was touching her back very gently. We
started to hear noises downstairs.
I decided to take some photos before we went back down-

Michelle said that when we heard the jangling of the
keys, she had left the keys in the lock at the bottom of
the stairs. But she said that they would have had to give
them a good shove for us to hear them. I said that if I
had brought the CCTV and covered every area, we might
have caught them.
We made our way back downstairs. Michelle moved the
keys to see if they sounded the same as what we had
heard. To make the sound you had to lift the bottom key,
but it did sound the same.
We moved into the kitchen area and Shayna felt off bal-
ance and I had my bottom touched. I also felt that I had
been whacked above my eye on the forehead. Michelle
said one of the members of staff had also been touched in
there.
We made our way into the back bar. Michelle told us that
the sewing machine stand moves on its own at times and
the dog won’t go in there. The room at the back seemed
to be a secret room. They knocked through it when the
renovations were done. As I was walking in I felt I was
grabbed by the ankle. As I was telling the group what
had happened there was a breath caught on handy cam
and an EVP saying, ‘get off me.’

I started to have a look at the photos I had taken. I had
caught a very strange light anomaly that was sat on the
table. It looked like a child. We talked about it looking

dered where they would have put the babies once termi-
nated and Michelle said that she thought they went in
the alley. Michelle thought it was called Blood Alley or

be thrown in the alleyway.

I did some calling out, asking for spirits to use every-

one’s energy and draw close. I picked up on yet another
poisoning as my mouth was watering. Michelle went re-
ally hot and felt sick. I asked her if she wanted to move.
Shayna felt that the ladies were starving. I thought that
if Shayna thought that they were starved, that might
explain my watery mouth. Shayna felt that when the
ladies weren’t any use anymore that they would be put
in here and left. I took some photos and caught an extra
face on one of the photos.

We decided to have a quick break as we had been going

for nearly 2 hours. Michelle felt funny still, and I said
that she should step out of the room. As we were prepar-
ing to leave, I felt like I had received a smack around
the head again. I was panning around quickly with the

I could smell antiseptic but no one else could. Michelle

heard a thud coming from upstairs and it was caught on
voice recorder. I asked Bev if she was touching me, but
she wasn’t. Something was touching my bra strap at the
back, and I said that they could pack it in. It touched me
again and I moved. Chloe said that she was stood there
before and got touched.

I was taking some photos in the cellar. Shayna had a

sharp pain in her stomach and Chloe said it was maybe
an abortion pain. There was a loud thud coming from
upstairs and Michelle went to check that she had locked
the door. I joked about them leaving me alone in the
cellar and I was touched again. It made me jump and I
practically ran out of the cellar. There were two really
loud thuds upstairs.
We made our way back upstairs and thought we would
end the investigation there. Michelle wondered if there
would be anything caught on CCTV. It had gone very
quiet, and the energy had dropped. It had been a very
long investigation, but ti was well worth the wait, and
we were amazed by how active it was.

Let’s play a game. Close your eyes and imagine you are walking
on a crowded street and you hear someone call out your name.
You might initially feel startled because you were not expecting it.
Instinctually you might turn around. Perhaps a friend or family
member has recognized you. Even when you turn around and
your eyes scan the unfamiliar faces and cannot find the source of
the voice, it probably would not alarm you in any way. More than
likely, you would simply turn back around and move on with your
day.
But what if there was a chilling plot twist? What if you are alone in
a dark haunted house and you hear a disembodied voice whisper
your name? This shift in perspective changes how a person may
react. One might take off running from a jolt of adrenaline, others
might freeze in fear. But we paranormal weirdos might grin from
ear to ear and ask the spirit to repeat themselves. If you are the
latter, then perhaps we can dive down the rabbit hole together.
When it comes down to it, there are two main kinds of hauntings
categorized as residual and intelligent. In a residual haunting, it
is as if we are observing a scene or action being projected in a
location over and over. This could take the form of footsteps on
a staircase at the same hour each day, or perhaps a shadow that
paces in the same hallway every night. It might even be phantom
music whose source cannot be traced. Oftentimes the activity is
non-responsive to the observers. Essentially this scene is a harm-
less loop of an imprinted memory on the location. The other per-
haps more chilling category is referred to as an intelligent haunt-
ing. In cases such as these, the spirit will directly communicate
through audio, visual, or tactile responses. Tapping or knocking

to answer questions is a common way to connect to a spirit. This
can also be great for those without traditional ghost-hunting
equipment. Asking a spirit to dim the lights in a room, or using
flashlights as a form of yes or no questions can also be done. Oth-
er forms of intelligent haunting might include physical touching
such as tapping or hair tugging. These are harmless examples of
the spirit simply trying to get your attention. Audible voices are
more rare but can happen in some locations.
So, you’re in a haunted house and you’ve heard your name. Now
what?
You should begin to ask yourself a few questions at this moment.
Did you introduce yourself at the beginning of the investigation?
Is there a possibility the spirit heard someone else use your name?
Or is the answer none of the above? That, my friends, is when
things can get a bit darker. If no one else mentioned your name, is
it demonic? I believe the possibility is extremely low, but certainly
never zero percent. If you come to the
conclusion that no one could have
possibly revealed your name and you
heard it spoken, it might be a safe bet
to conclude the investigation.
In my experience, more often than not,
my name being spoken by a spirit was
perfectly innocent. I usually introduce
myself before an investigation and
I always travel with others who use
it. Introductions are an easy way to
establish a great connection. When
you get that interaction, it is simply the
best feeling. Creating a bond with an
intelligent entity is a rush. My sugges-
tion is to try and keep the conversation
going. Keep the line of communication
open as long as you can. And if you are able to return to the same
location you might find the spirit may just remember you. This
can come in handy, because over time you can develop a rela-
tionship of trust with the spirit, and the information they share
may become more personal, and it will be more tangible for your
research.

An important tip to keep in mind would be to do your homework

beforehand. For example, you may want to brush up on the his-
tory of the location you are investigating. Really dig into the meat
of the story. Separate rumors from facts. Just because you heard
something nasty went down in a location, does not necessarily
make it true. Find human connections to names of people who
might be haunting the space, important life events, and deaths. I
like to lean into the names personally. It is surprising how much
more paranormal interaction can happen when you single out
an entity by saying their name. You can also refer back to your
research when analyzing evidence in order to bring some real
credibility to your findings.

DO ask light-hearted questions such as favorite activities, period

pop culture questions, and daily life inquiries.

The time period is also important to consider. If someone lived in

the late 1800’s, they might not understand current slang or topics.
I find when I bring up fun activities, the spirits seem more willing
to keep the conversation going. Perhaps asking if they like music,
singing, or dancing, might jog fond memories for them. Asking
them questions such as what their favorite ice cream flavor was,
or if they drove a car, may also seem enticing to them. Thinking
of questions beforehand is a great idea because it can become dif-
ficult to think of meaningful content on the fly. Keeping a journal
is a great tool for this. It can be a great record during evidence
review as well. DO NOT ask how someone died. This is literally
the most singularly personal experience in the human existence
and not exactly appropriate for a new relationship. It could ab-
solutely set the wrong tone for your investigation. What you can
do is ask what the last thing a spirit remembers, and perhaps you
may gather more insight to deduct a manner of death. If they are
forthcoming and offer this information, by all means, roll with it.

In the end, it is all about building your connection through trust,

in the same way you would interact with a living person. Every
paranormal interaction is bringing us one step closer to knowing
a little more about the unknown. Even if you only gather a small
amount of evidence, try not to get discouraged. Some nights the
spirits may be willing to speak, and other nights they may not. If
you have the opportunity to visit a location multiple times, you
can certainly see what works for you and what does not. I have
captured my name countless times on my digital recorder, portal
device, and spirit box. Every time, it really does feel like I won the
lottery. Everyone has to develop their own style when it comes to
investigating. This has worked for me personally throughout my

As I spoke with Bill we started talking about compelling inves

1991, when a family claimed to be haunted, experiencing a range
of distressing symptoms. This is the captivating story of how

Unearthly Encounters
On My Parents' Property
What if a location is haunted by something that refuses to be
defined? Is it our brain or our humanity that wants a haunting to
be the spirit of a fellow person, a person that we feel like we can
connect with? Sometimes places can be haunted by something
that almost seems to mimic humanity almost in mockery of those
who live there.
My parents bought their property (the property where my mother
continues to live) back in about 1969. My older sister was approx-
imately two years old. They were a very young married couple
starting out together. My mother was about twenty and my father
twenty-four. My father had the entered marriage with a daughter
from a previous relationship who was now about seven. They
purchased five acres with a small two-bedroom home sitting right
in the middle of the property. My father said he always wanted
the five acres since he knew that they would never have next-door
neighbors. The original house burned down in 1993 and my par-
ents rebuilt a new house on the property.
I honestly don’t know exactly when my parents started experienc-
ing different supernatural encounters on their property. I know
that some of my father’s stories about the property were from the
early 1970’s, so it must have started fairly soon after they pur-
chased it. Whatever is there is not shy and has made its presence
known in a wide variety of ways. Probably the most unsettling are
the sounds that are heard in the mesquite trees at night. The two
most common of these are a baby crying and laughter.
I have only heard the baby cry a couple of times in my life. The
first time I heard it stands out the most in my memory, probably
because of the repercussions that I faced afterward. I was approx-
imately nine years old or so. There was a church potluck that eve-
ning, and my sister and I were bringing pies to my mom. My sister
had asked me to carry some of the pies and put them in the car.
After I had sat the pies on the backseat of our dad’s old Mustang,
I distinctly heard a baby crying nearby. It was definitely a baby in
distress. The nearest neighbors were acres away. We couldn’t hear
anything from their house. I panicked, but not out of fear of the

supernatural. I was sure that there had to be an abandoned baby
out in the mesquite trees somewhere. Without thinking, I imme-
diately ran into the house to get my sister. I didn’t even stop to
close the car door. By the time I got my sister to follow me out to
the car, the family dogs had gotten in and destroyed the pies. I was
in enormous trouble. I explained to her, and to my parents, what
I had heard. That was when I found that they had all heard the
baby cry at some point. No one knew what it was, and it had been
going on for years. In fact, it hasn’t stopped. When I last spoke to
my brother about it, he said that he had heard it not too long ago.
A crying baby isn’t the property’s only trick. Whether or not it
is the same being, there is something that laughs while staying
hidden in the mesquite trees as well. Just like the baby, the laugh-
ter only comes at night, and when someone is alone outside. The
laughter can be a soft chuckle, or sometimes it is louder and more
sinister. I admit that in the daytime or with the lights on laughter
and a baby crying might not sound scary. But place yourself in the
middle of nowhere, with no streetlights, no traffic, no neighbors.
It is nighttime and you have to go outside. As you walk out to
the car or to check on something you hear it. Maybe it is a baby
crying where there should not be a baby. Maybe it is someone
laughing. Someone who must be there. In the dark. Looking at
you even though you can’t see them.
Whatever is there also doesn’t only communicate through baby
cries and laughter. As I said, my parents have been experiencing
the supernatural at their property since the early 1970’s. During
this time my father rode a motorcycle. One winter night he woke
up to remember that he didn’t bring his helmet inside after work-
ing on his bike. Everyone thinks about the heat in Arizona, but
they don’t realize that in the winters parts of Arizona drop below
freezing at night. My father was afraid that his helmet might crack
if he didn’t bring it in, so he ran outside to grab it; however, the
helmet wasn’t hanging on his bike where it should be. Rather
than going inside and going back to bed, he decided that it must
have fallen off while he was testing his fixes on a ride in the empty
acreage across the road. He thought that there was no way that it
could be too far, so a quick ride out and he would have the helmet
and be back in bed in no time. He was right. In just a few minutes
his headlights picked up the helmet laying on the ground. He
stopped, got off his bike, and grabbed the helmet. Then, just like
in a horror movie, the bike’s engine cut off. He was working to try
to get it going again when he heard someone behind him clearly
say, “Bill.” He figured that my mom must have woken up and
realized that he wasn’t in bed anymore and was calling his name
from the front porch. He turned around towards the house only to
realize that he had gone much farther than anticipated. There was
no way he would have been able to hear her calling him from that
distance. He was alone. He was alone, yet someone had clearly
said his name. He worked as fast as he could to get the bike going
and as soon as it started, he raced home without looking behind
him.
Whatever entities haunt my parents’ property do not remain out-
side. Many of us have had unexplainable experiences inside the
house as well. Some were rather small signs, almost like a signal
letting us know that we weren’t alone. One night I was babysitting
my younger siblings. At this time my parents had a chime on the
back of the front door consisting of four strings and small wooden
weights that would hit them melodically when the door closed.
The younger kids had gone to bed, and I was in the living room
watching TV. Suddenly just one of the strings made one single re-
sponse as if the weight attached to it had been lifted and dropped
once, but then stopped before it could bounce. There is no way
that this could have been the wind since the noise was only one
chime and stopped immediately. It also couldn’t be movement
from the door for the same reason. However, this experience was
quick and almost a “hello” compared to a terrifying experience
that my brother had when he was a teenager.
In the early 2000’s I was living in the same town as my parents,
but I lived in town proper with my sister and my young son. Since
we were close in proximity, our younger siblings often spent time
at our small home, especially if our parents were out of town. This
was the case one evening in approximately 2001. My younger
brother was debating between staying with us or staying at our
parents’ home by himself while our parents were out of town for
a few days. He decided to go our parent’s home to gather items
so that he wouldn’t spend the night alone. When he came back to
our house, he was shaking and nearly in tears. My sister and I sat
down with him and asked him to tell us immediately what had
happened. As best I can remember, this is his story.
When he pulled into the driveway the house appeared to be com-
pletely quiet, which was natural since our parents had already left
town. He went into the house and was doing a few things in the
living room and kitchen area. He then heard voices and someone
moving around back in our parents’ bedroom. Not being afraid
of confrontation, my brother headed straight to the back of the
house to face the intruder head-on. However, when he got to our
parents’ room in the back of the house, no one was there, and he
had passed no one in the single hallway leading to their room. At
this point he heard voices in the living room, the room that he
had just left. Now he was scared. It was impossible for someone to
have made their way from the back bedroom to the living room
without passing him in the hall. My brother still wanted to see
what was happening, he figured that there still had to be a natural
explanation, right? He went straight back down the hallway to
the living room. Again, he found an empty room. And again, he
experienced a repetition of the voices in the back of the house.
My brother then decided that if there was something (or some-
one) in the house, it was clearly deliberately messing with him
and his best course of action at this point was to leave the house.
He quickly grabbed what personal items he had nearby and went
straight to the front door. When he grabbed the doorknob, it was
so cold that moisture had condensed on it (on a warm summer
evening in southern Arizona). He raced out to his truck in the
driveway and made his way to our home in town as quickly as he
could. In fact, he was shocked that he had not had a car accident
on his way as much as the experience had upset him.
My brother and I have spent many evenings talking about my par-
ents’ home. When I graduated from high school and moved out,
he moved into my former bedroom. He said that he could never
sleep in there. He was so bothered by the room that he moved
back into his shared room with our other brother. Our baby sister
eventually took the room and stayed in it throughout her school
years. Our sister never reported seeing or hearing anything in that
room, so does that mean that there is nothing there? Does the
absence of proof mean that something doesn’t exist? Does the fact
that my sister didn’t report anything negate my brother’s experi-
ences just because it is more acceptable?
However, it was not only family members who reported seeing
things at my parents’ home. While I was in high school, I had a
friend come over while my parents were not home. He happened
to be a little bit of a clean freak and actually wanted to clean the
living room while my parents were out. I had gone in the back
of the house while he was getting out the vacuum. When I came
back in the living room, my friend calmly stated, “I just watched
a woman walk across your living room and through the wall.” I
asked him if he wanted to leave, but he responded, “No. I think
it was kind of cool.” I had never spoken to this friend about the
weirdness of my parents’ property or anything that anyone had
ever seen or heard.
My friend had a point. It is kind of cool. While there are some,
like my brother, who see the presence there as something malev-
olent and dangerous, no one has ever really been harmed. There
is absolutely no doubt that hearing a disembodied baby cry or
laughter in the desert night is terrifying in the moment. But, man,
it does make for a cool story.

A tale of a heartbroken woman named Lucinda is said to haunt

Stony Hollow Road. According to legend, she was planning to
meet the love of her life just outside of town to elope. The man,
however, never showed. Heartbroken Lucinda committed suicide
by jumping off a cliff. There are many reports of people seeing the
ghost. Local urban legend also says that if you say her name three
times she will appear, and if she drops a rose for you, you will die
the following day.
