Maintenance shall be effected by trained personnel or by the manufacturer according to the provisions supplied
by EN378.
WARNING
Use safety gloves to protect your hands from possible cuts.
The user is strongly recommended to contact the manufacturer before attempting any intervention on the unit and
any use not corresponding to the manufacturer’s indications (in particular as for the field of application) and to
enquire about the possible dangers and contra-indications connected with an improper use of the machine.
The unit shall be used following these instructions and sticking to the destination of use indicated by the
supplier. Any incorrect use can result in damages to the unit and represents a serious danger for people’s
health.
ATTENTION
The unit is not suitable for working in explosive environments.
Therefore the use of the unit in an explosion-dangerous atmosphere is absolutely
forbidden.
ATTENTION
The unit is not suitable for working in salty environments. In such a case protect
condenser and evaporator with appropriate means.
When maintenance involves operations on the refrigerating circuit, empty the system and let it reach the
atmospheric pressure.
WARNING
Do not discharge the refrigerant in the atmosphere. It must be recovered by specialized
technicians using suitable equipment.
Quantity and quality of the refrigerant to be charged are indicated on the data plate.
Do not use refrigerants of different kind (especially inflammable fluids, for example hydrocarbons) or air.
Do not modify or alter the refrigerating circuit or its components (for example: welding on compressor body)
The final user shall protect the system from external fire dangers.
The unit has been designed to ensure a constant temperature control during transport. The cold storage room
must be well insulated, provided with airtight door and optimal ventilation.
If the temperature of the product loaded is too high, the unit will not be able to cool it down.
23
For safe use of the unit, we suggest:
ATTENTION
Do not use water or steam when cleaning as the electrical components may be damaged.
Keep condenser and evaporator clean.
Stand-by operation in enclosed places: ensure good ventilation to the condenser.
Check that all screws are properly fixed and suitable to the purpose.
When making holes in the unit or in the vehicle chassis, take care not to pierce the refrigerating pipings, the
electrical wiring or any other vehicle component.
Never close the compressor discharge valve when the unit is working.
When working on the unit, use only flexible pipes of gauges in good conditions and avoid touching belts, pulley
or fan.
WARNING
Cleaning and maintenance are to be carried out with the unit switched OFF.
After a running period, condenser and H/P discharge pipes are very hot; let them cool down before carrying
out any operation.
Handle fans, belts and pulleys carefully, with the unit OFF: prevent them from unexpected starting.
When working near the coils (condenser and evaporator), pay attention not to cut oneself with the edges of
the fins.
When the unit is working, avoid putting hands near fans and belts.
Refrigerant fluid handling has to be carried out taking all necessary precautions.
Near a heating source refrigerant fluid produces an unpleasant smelling gas, irritating for the respiratory
system.
Never heat with fire a cooling cylinder containing refrigerant fluid.
For any kind of manipulation on the unit, take all possible precautions
Refrigerant in liquid state evaporates in contact with the atmosphere and freezes everything it touches.
Refrigerant oil.
Synthetic types.
Avoid prolonged or repeated contact with skin.
Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
The unit starts automatically; keep away from moving components (belts, pulleys, fans).

2. IDENTIFICATION
2.1 Nameplate
Each unit Zanotti Transblock is identified by a sticker. On the plate they are given the plant model, serial number
and other information.
For any problem, refer to the information on the data plate and note the plant model and serial number before
calling your service personnel.
Technical support staff needs this information to ensure a more efficient service.
The plate is complete visible by removing the left side (according to the direction of travel of the vehicle) of the
condensing unit, on the closure panel of the electrical panel or on the frame and on the plastic drip tray of the
evaporator inside the cell; The serial number is also listed on the side panel of a metal plate for immediate
identification.

3. Product loading
Proper air circulation inside the insulated cell is essential to maintain the quality of the goods during transport. This
ensures a uniform temperature distribution within the whole cell. If the air can not circulate freely around the load,
you may create zones of heat or ice formations.
We recommend the use of pallets. When these are loaded, favoring the free circulation of air, and his return in the
evaporator, help protect the goods from the heat that passes through the floor of the trailer. When using pallets, it
is important not to stack other boxes on the floor in the back of the cell, since the latter can prevent air circulation.
The stacking is another important factor in the protection of goods. The products that generate heat, such as fruit
and vegetables, need to be stacked, leaving sufficient space for air circulation so as to allow the removal of the
heat generated; this process is called "stacking ventilated".
Goods which do not generate heat, such as meat and frozen products, should instead be stacked next to each
other at the center of the cell. All goods must be kept away from the walls of isothermal to allow air to circulate
between the cell and the load; this prevents heat from the outside of the walls of damaging the goods. It
'important to check the temperature of goods during loading, to make sure that they are at the correct
temperature during transport. The refrigeration system is designed to maintain the temperature of the goods to
the level of the loading temperature; the system is not suitable for cooling hot products.
SOME ADVICES
Before loading
Cool in advance the interior of the cell proceeding to a reduction of the temperature for about 15 minutes.
Eliminate the moisture inside the cell by activating a manual defrost. This operation is possible only if the cell
temperature is less than 5°C.
The evaporator fans are protected by security grills. In case of intensive use of the system, on them could
accumulate ice. It is therefore recommended to clean them regularly with a small brush. The operation MUST
be performed after the system has been turned OFF.
During loading
This must be done when the unit is switched off.
It is recommended to minimize the times of opening of the doors to prevent the entry of hot air and moisture.
Select the temperature using the thermostat depending on the transported goods.
Check the temperature inside the products that you are loading (needle thermometer)
Do not cover the air intake openings of the evaporating coil and
the ventilation ducts..
Spacers load Mind the gap approximately:
- 6 - 8 cm between the load and the front wall;
- 20 cm between the top of load and the roof;
- A few cm between the floor and the load (pallet).
Do not forget to close the doors.
Before closing the doors, re-check the load and make sure that
nobody is still inside the cell.
Load on pallet
ATTENTION!!!
In the phases of parking the vehicle, it is recommended to position the cell on shade.
Never leave the unit swithched off for more than a month.

4. OPERATION
The control unit recognizes that the unit is in road mode when the ignition key of the vehicle is turned on.
The control unit recognizes that the unit is in stand-by mode, when the power plug is connected to a compatible
source of electricity.
During stand-by mode operation, the components are fed in DC voltage through the use of a transformer; other
dedicated AC devices are activated.
Stand-by mode usually provides cooling power equivalent to 60/70% of the maximum capacity available in road
mode.
It should be used primarily for storage of product at a positive temperature >0°C.
For the reason mentioned above in a vehicle used to transport at -20°C, hardly stand-by mode will be able to
maintain the same temperature, unless you choose to install an oversized unit.
If continuous use alternating between stand-by and road mode is good to check periodically if there is an
accumulation of ice in the evaporator.
CAUTION!!!
Stand-by mode is designed for intermittent use and non-intensive, so it can not be considered a substitute of
stationary refrigeration system with own cell not having the same technical characteristics.
When the unit reach the set-point, temperature control is achieved by starts and stops cyclic compressor,
evaporator and condenser fans.
When transporting delicate loads, such as fresh meat, vegetables and cheese, you can program the microprocessor
(contact your dealer) to obtain a continuous ventilation of the evaporator.
28
4.4 Defrosting
During cooling, the air releases moisture that accumulates gradually between the evaporator fins until freeze and
block the passage of air which progressively reducing the efficiency of the system and subsequently causing
damage.
For this reason, regularly it does a defrost cycle in order to melt the ice accumulated and drain externally water.
The control unit manages autonomously and periodically the beginning and the end of the defrosts.
The type of defrosting change from the use of the unit:
- Air defrost
It is the simplest solution and consists in practice in a stop of the unit in order to allow to melt accumulated
ice while maintaining active fan. It is available on R134a units and recommended only if the vehicle is
intended exclusively for the carriage of products at temperatures above 5°C.
Advice
The efficiency of the defrost is inextricably linked to the accuracy of drain water line.
The steepness of the discharge is such as to ensure the smooth flow of the drain water
Periodically check the outflow of water from the drain hose.
Minimize opening the cell and turn the unit off during loading and unloading of the goods in order to
minimize the introduction of external moisture into the cell
In case of intensive use of the unit check regularly the accumulation of ice in the evaporator and
periodically run a stop in order to ensure the complete melting of all the ice.
If the unit operates in extremely variable climatic conditions, in certain circumstances and periods of the year in
order to keep the temperature of the product within the desired range, it may be required heating of the cell as an
alternative to the cooling.
For example of the transport of leafy vegetables or flowers for which must be guaranteed a temperature comprised
between 5 and 10 ° C, when externally we temperatures significantly below zero.
From the technical point of view the heating exploits the same principles used for hot gas defrosting) with in
addition the activation of the evaporator fans.
In the units with air defrost it is provided a further option for heating, through the use of electrical resistors, active
only during the road mode operation.
It allows the management of two compartments with different temperature. The unit is equipped with multiple
evaporators and a dedicated control unit, which manages the two temperatures independently of each other.
The heating function is also included in the logic of operation.
