Text: Rom 1:14-16: "I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and

to the
unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am
not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes;
to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

Title: Be missional

The two I ams and one I am not.

1. A debtor to all. We are under obligation to all. “I am under compulsion,” (v. 14)
I have a duty to perform and a debt to pay both to Greeks and to

barbarians [the cultured and the uncultured], both to the wise and to
the foolish. (Amp)
He said to the Corinthians; “for woe is me if I do not preach the gospel. For if I do this voluntarily, I
have a reward; but if against my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me” (1 Cor. 9:16–17).
~ I owe my parents; I owe my sister, brother, Uncle, Aunt, etc. I owe my neighbor. I owe my
colleague in school. I owe my class mate. I owe my students the good news. I owe my teachers. I owe
my business partner, farmer, etc.
~ I owe my Muslim neighbors, I owe my
2. Be ready and compelled to preach

He was as determined to preach … in Rome as he was to go to Jerusalem, although he knew great

danger awaited him there. “And now, behold, bound in spirit, I am on my way to Jerusalem, not
knowing what will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit solemnly testifies to me in every
city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me” (Acts 20:22–23).
~ Get ready nor matter what insults, mockery, etc.
3. Don’t be ashamed of the gospel

Why are ashamed? Maybe, your life has spoiled the good news already. Your mouth has ruined
the message. You argued and even insulted that unbeliever. You have a problem with him or her.
~ Repent: change your mind: acts differently
~ confess when necessary
~ Apologise where necessary
~ Forgive in order to preach.
Remember, we are indebted to all, ready to preach to all and unashamed of the gospel.
