Apart from the appendices, the provisions of this leaflet are obligatory. 506 OR 0 - General 0.1 - By comparison with the gauge common to Leaflets 505-1 to 505-4, GA, GB and GC vehicle gauges are larger in the upper part and correspond as a result to the application principles defined in § 1 below. 0.2 - Since GA, GB and GC vehicle gauges were designed at the outset to meet loading needs, by derogation from Leaflets 505-1, 505-2 and 505-3, this leaflet first of all defines the rules in respect of static gauges (1). 0.3 - To enable rail vehicles to be built to GA, GB and GC gauges, the leaflet also defines the corresponding kinematic gauges - in the same way as in Leaflets 505-1, 605-2 and 505-3. 0.4 - Loads arid vehicles conforming to enlarged gauges GA, GB or| GC shall only be allowed on lines widened to these gauges. The lines concemed are listed in RIV Annex 2. Train movements on lines not shown on this list shall be treated as special consignments. 0.5 - Wagons and coaches built to gauges GA, GB or GC shall be identified by a marking as specified in the RIV and RIC. {Gp The typical loads used for defining GA and GC gauges are given in Appendix 2t0 this leaflet 11.93 506 OR 1 Scope of application The following application has been selected for GA, GB and GC gauges: 1.1 - GA gauge may be extended in the more or less long term to all railway lines. 1.2 - GB gauge, which incorporates the GA gauge, is valid for short or medium term projects on a maximum number of lines in order to develop a cohesive whole over a relatively extensive area. 1.3 - GC gauge, which incorporates the GA and GB gauges, is valid for new lines and major rebuilding projects (e.g. tunnels) on specially indicated existing lines. 1.4 - For GA and GB gauges, a transitional phase may be allowed during which the typical loads defined in Appendix 2 to the leaflet may be forwarded under the responsability of the railway concerned, which should then ascertain, by means of suitable calculations, that there exists maximum structure clearance (1) 1.5 - Gauges GB1 and GB2 shown in Appendix 3 are options that involve upgrading of certain lines when the GB gauge is not adequate. (1) Lines on which such loads may be worked may be labelled GAO and GBO. 1.1.93 2 - GA, GB and GC STATIC GAUGES (loading gauges) GA, GB and GC STATIC GAUGES (loading gauges) 2.1 - REFERENCE PROFILES FIGURE 1 Running surface ‘ N.B.: Up toa height of 3220 mm, the reference profile of GA, GB and GC gauges is identical to the static gauge given in Leaflet 505-3, Appendix 4a, yuo 90g 506 OR 2.2 - Rules associated with static reference profiles These rules apply exclusively to calculation of maximum load profiles. They shall only be valid in cases where the coefficient of flexibility of the wagon + its load is not greater than that of the typical loads defined in § 1 of Appendix 2. The rules for the kinematic calculations arising from sub-paragraph 3.2.4 may be applied to clearly defined loads. The term “clearly defined loads" shall be understood to mean: transferable units loads with known geometric parameters, e.g. containers and swap bodies conveyed on carrier wagons fitted with load positioning devices, and semi-trailers with deflated air} suspension or mechanical suspension, with a known roll flexibility coefficient (1), conveyed on recess wagons. Under these conditions the combination of a wagon and its load can be treated as a normal single wagon. In view of tolerances on centring, the half-widths should be at most equal to those of the reference profiles shown in § 2.1 (Figure 1) reduced by the following values of & and E,: 2.2.1 - GA and GB gauges - Height h < 3.22 m. The E; and E, reduction formulae to be applied are those given in Leaflet 505-3, Appendix 4d. - Height h > 3.22 m. The rules to be applied are those of Leaflet 505-4. + Height h>3.88 m (GA gauge) and height h24.11 m (GB gauge).
