Procedure 330-10 High Pressure Pump Rebuild (Annual maintenance) Materials: 1.) Diaphragm, Primus #03-02-1011 2.) Belt, 03-02-0154 3.) Oil, Primus #03-02-0156 4) Torque screws 4/pk, Primus #03-02-157 5.) Aerosol degreaser 6.) Hewlett-Packard High Pressure Pump Screw grease 7.) DI water 8.) Isopropyl Alcohol (PA) 9.) Hexane Tools: 1.) Torque wrench and tips, metric readings up on 1SNm 2.) 14” x 5/16” wrench 3.) 3mm Allen wrench 4.) Smm Allen wrench 5.) Grounding kit Procedure: 1.) System preparation a.) Remove guard and analytical columns. Install column and guard bypass lines. ‘¢) Flush the system with water and then IPA. 2.) Tum off the CLC330™ at the LUSI keyboard. 3.) Tum off the line power at the line-power switch atthe rear ofthe instrument, 4.) Remove the High Pressure Pump from the cabinet. 14.) Remove the solvent reservoir compartment as described in Primus Procedure 330-5, .) Remove the hydraulic ol from the high pressure pump. CAUTION: |The boards contain electronic parts that are sensitive to clectrostatic discharge. Do not attempt to install boards unless you use a portable grounding kit, Do not touch any of the components on the boards. Do not place boards on any plastic ot plastic-coated surface. ©.) Attach the portable grounding kit as described in the manufactures instructions. 4)) Either loosen the four serews on the connector printed-circuit board shown in Figure 330-1021 or remove the two thumb screws on the left. 4 High Pressure Pump Rebuild 330-10 Figure 330-10, Removing the Printed-Circuit Boards ¢:) Pull the small ciruit board (Interconnect board) from the front ofthe Red and Purple Tab boards and swing out ofthe way. Do not remove the flat eable at the right of this board. ££) Remove the Red and Purple tab boards and place them (components downwards) on the portable grounding kit, 2) Using two wrenches, hold the solvent-inlet ball valve housing with a 5/16 inch ‘end and unserew the nut on the solvent-inlet capillary with a 1/4 inch end. hy) Repeat forthe solvent-outlet capillary. i.) Disconnect the sensor eable (three wires) from the small brown connector 11143 on the SDS motherboard. Sce Figure 330-10.2. 25 High Pressure Pump Rebuild 330-10 Figure 330-10.2 SDS Motherboard J.) Disconnect the motor power-cable (sheathed) from the large brown connector ‘on the CLC330 bulkhead (which separates the low vollage area from the high voltage area). First open the clips on either side of the connector and then pull ‘out the plug. See Figure 330-10.3, Figure 330-103, sconnecting Sensor Cable .) Support the weight of the pump with one hand. 1) Using a 3mm Allen wrench in your other hand, unscrew the top three hhexagonal screws in the side ofthe printed-circuit board compartment. See Figure 330-1044 26 High Pressure Pump Rebuild 330-10 Figure 330-104 High Pressure Pump Showing Hexagonal Serews (1) 1m.) Lift the pump out of the mainframe. CAUTION: Always hold the pump in a vertical position, 5.) Disassemble the pump. a.) Using the torque wrench with Smm Allen wrench socket, unscrew the four bolts holding the pump head to the pump body. See Figure 330-10.5, 7 Figure 330-105, Underside of Pump Head Showing Serews (1) b.) Remove the diaphragm. If the diaphragm is stuck to the pump-body, rotate the pump motor by hand for | or 2 evolutions to free the diaphragm, 6.) Install the diaphragm, 4.) Clean the surface of the pump head using aerosol degreaser of liberal amounts of IPA and Kimvipes®. Check thatthe holes in the pump and pump-head are free ‘of debris and all traces of oil/erease. 27 High Pressure Pump Rebuild 330-10 ».) Place the new diaphragm in position on the pump head. The diaphragm has a smooth-edge side and a rough-edge side. Slide a fingernail over each side 10 determine. The rough edge side goes toward the pump body. Ensure that the diaphragm is central. See Figure 330-10.6. Figure 330-10.6 Diaphragm (1) on Pump Head ©.) Press the pump head with the diaphragm up to the pump body, and replace the four bolts into the pump-head. Grease the threads of the bolts near the caps with Hewlett-Packard High Pressure Pump Screw grease before inserting and tighten the bolts by hand. 4.) Using the torque wrench, tighten the bolts in a crosswise sequence. This ‘operation should be done in three steps (SNm at a time). On the final step, tighten the bolts to 1SNm. 6.) Changing the belt. a) Using a3 mm Allen wrench, unscrew the four hexagonal serews that hold the ‘motor tothe eam shaft compartment, See Figure 330-10.7. 28 High Pressure Pump Rebuild 330-10 Figure 330-10.7 Motor Screws of High Pressure Pump (I b.) Install belt i.) Slide the new drive belt over the toothed wheel on the motor spindle and then ‘onto the large toothed wheel at the top. Check that the drive belt is central on both wheels. ii.) Carefully allow the weight of the motor to tension the belt. The flexibility of ‘movement should be about | mm on each side of the belt when both sides are pressed towards each other. See Figure 330-10.8. 29 High Pressure Pump Rebuild 330-10 Figure 330-10.8 High Pressure Pump Showing Drive Belt iii.) Replace and retighten the four hexagonal serews that hold the motor to the «cam shaft compartment. 8.) Reinstall the High Pressure Pump. .) Put the high-pressure pump back in position 'b) Using a 3 mm hexagonal key, serew the three hexagonal screws through the side of the printed-circuit board compartment into the high pressure pump. Refer back to Figure 330-1044 «.) Reconnect the two cables into their respective connectors. 4.) Reinstall the Red and Purple tab boards. Secure then with the two clips 2) Swing the Interconnect board back onto the Red and Purple tab boards. Press firmly taking care not to bend the pins on the connectors. ££) Tighten the four serews on the connector printed-circuit board or the two thumb ) Replace the screws in the solvent-reservoir compartment 9.) Reassemble the High Pressure Pump a.) Refill the hydrauli-oil reservoir with new oil to about the level of the top ofthe ‘metal cutout on the inner left sie of the ol reservoir. ',) Insert check valve housings(containing check valves & sieve(inlet only) into high pressure pump body. Tighten finger tight and then turn 1/8” tur tighter using 5/16” wrench 30 High Pressure Pump Rebuild
