Econom ics is one of t he social sciences, w h ich has great in fluence on e v ery h u man being. As econom ic life and t he econom y go t hrough changes, t he
need to grou nd education in o w n ex perience becomes essen tial. W h ile doing so, it is im perati v e to prov ide t he m opport u nities to acquire
anal y tical sk ills to obser v e and u nderstand t he econom ic realities.
A t sen ior secondar y stage, t he learners are in a position to u nderstand abstract ideas, e x ercise t he po w er of t h in k ing and to de v elop t heir o w n
perception. It is at t h is stage, t he learners are ex posed to t he rigour of t he discipline of econom ics in a syste matic w a y.
T he econom ics courses also con tain man y projects and acti v ities. T hese w ill prov ide opport un ities for t he learners to ex plore v arious econom ic issues
bot h from t heir da y-to-da y life and also from issues, w h ich are broader and in v isible in nat ure. T he acade m ic sk ills t hat t he y learn in t hese courses
w ould help to de v elop t he projects and acti v ities. T he sy llabus is also e x pected to prov ide opport u n ities to use in formation and com m u n ication
tech nologies to facilitate t heir learn ing process.
T he acade m ic y ear is di v ided in to t w o terms. T he e v aluation of t he progress is based on t he formal e x am inations as w ell as, on t he project
w ork u ndertaken b y t hem during t he acade m ic y ear. St uden ts w ould prepare on l y one project in t he en tire acade m ic session, w h ich is di v ided i n to 2
terms i.e. Term I and Term II.
