SYSTEM CORROSION COUPON
HOLDER ASSEMBLIES

1. Principle of Operation

Corrosion coupon is a method of online corrosion monitoring employing mass-

loss measurement. A coupon is a metallic specimen which composition and condition
of state are approximately similar to those of the facility being monitored. After
exposure to various fluids and flow conditions for certain period of time, the coupon
is later retrieved for examination and evaluation in order to determine the cause and
extend of corrosion. The extend of corrosion is generally represented by corrosion
rate. The cumulative corrosion rate throughout the exposure period is accordingly
calculated using the equation as follows, corrosion rate = mloss /(ρ.t.A), where
mloss is mass loss, is density, is total exposure period and is the exposed area.
Furthermore, corrosion coupon accesses other additional information which other
methods can not provides, viz., scale formation and types of corrosion, such as,
pitting, galvanic, crevice and stress-related corrosion. Corrosion coupons made of
different materials are also commonly used for selection of appropriate material.

Wide selection of corrosion coupon and holder as illustrated in below Fig. is available
for comprehensive range of application and operational condition. Flush configuration
is primarily used in locations where pigging is performed. Whereas, projecting
configuration permits exposure of the coupon to the corrosive phase in a multi phase
fluid. All design and processing of corrosion coupon and holder assembly meet
NACE RP0775-2005 and NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 standards.

2. Corrosion Coupon

Corrosion coupon is available in many different shapes and materials for diverse
objectives. Strip Coupon is mounted in pair and immersed in the phase of interest
within a multi phase fluid. The strip coupon comes in 3" or 6" in height to ensure
adequate observation area for good analysis. Scale Coupon has a strip shape and
different size holes so that scaling tendency can be monitored. Flush Disc Coupon
is positioned flush to the surrounding surface and, hence, closely represents the
actual surface condition. Multiple Disc Coupon allows comparison of corrosiveness
of different phases simultaneously. Ladder Strip Coupon functions similarly to the
multiple disc coupon but it is installed in pairs

3. 2 Inch Access Fitting Assembly

Access fitting Assembly comes with Solid/Hollow Plug to mount the Corrosion
Coupon holder/Probe system. To provide additional pressure safety and to
protect the outer ACME threads of access fitting a thread protector is
suggested to install with the system.
