MATERIALS
Manos del Uruguay WOOL CLASICA (100% wool; approx. 100g, 138 yds),
1 sk. Shown in 115 Flame.

US 10/6mm or size to obtain gauge, 16” circular and dpn


US 7/4.5mm 16” circular ndl
Ring markers

ABBREVIATIONS
Kfb: K into front and back of next st.
RTkk: Skip first st on LH ndl and k the second st; k the skipped st; then slip both sts from ndl together.
RTkp: Skip first st on LH ndl and k the second st; p the skipped st; then slip both sts from ndl together.
T4: Skip first 3 sts on LH ndl and k the fourth; then k into the third, then the second, then the first st; then
slip all sts from ndl.
T3: Skip first 2 sts on LH ndl and k the third; then k into the second, then the first; then slip all sts from ndl.
HAT
Using smaller circular ndl, CO 89 sts. Being careful not to twist sts, join
into round in the following way: sl last st onto LH ndl and k first and last st
tog. 88 sts. Work ¾” in k1,p1 rib.

Change to larger ndl. Inc on next rnd as follows: *k1, kfb, k2, kfb; rep
from * to last 8 sts of rnd; k3, kfb, k4. 121 sts.

Begin chart, placing markers between repeats. Work rnds 1 through 12 of


chart twice, then dec to shape top as follows, changing to dpn when neces-
sary:

Rnd 1: *P2tog twice, p1, k4, p1, k1; rep from * to end. 99 sts.
Rnd 2: *P2, RTkk, k3, RTkp; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 3: *P1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k2, p1; rep from * to end of rnd. 77 sts.
Rnd 4: *Rtkp, k2, RTkp, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 5: *K2tog, k1, k2tog, k2; rep from * to end of rnd. 55 sts.
Rnd 6: *T3, p2; rep from * to last st of rnd. Work last st as first half of RTkk.
Rnd 7: *second half of RTkk, k2tog, p1, first half of RTkk; rep from * to last st of rnd, k1. 44 sts.
Rnd 8: *K2tog, p1, k1; rep from * to end of rnd. 33 sts.
Rnd 9: *P2tog, k1; rep from * to end of rnd. 22 sts.
Rnd 10: K2tog around, removing markers. 11 sts rem.
Rnd 11: K2tog 5 times, k1. Break yarn, thread through rem 6 sts, and pull tight.

FINISHING
Weave in ends and block lightly if desired. Optional: Make pompom and attach to center top.
