MATERIALS
Universal Yarn Uptown Worsted (100% anti-
pilling acrylic; 100g/180 yds)
323 Steel Grey– 1 ball makes any of the
4 hats
Needle: US Size 6 (4 mm), 16” circular (for Lace
Rib); US Size 8 (5 mm), 16” circular, set of dpns
(for Lace Rib)
US Size 9 (5.5 mm) 16” circular, set of dpns (for
Honeycomb)
Hook: US Size 7 (4.5 mm) (for Shell Beanie,
Newsboy)
Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers, 1
Luxury Fur Pom-Pom for each hat, stitch holder
(for Newsboy), cable needle (for Honeycomb),
2 ½” buttons (for Newsboy)
GAUGE
16 dc x 8 dc rows = 4”
1 rep of Lace Columns patt = 3” using US Size 8
ndl
14 sts x 22 rows = 4” in Honeycomb patt and
US Size 9 ndl

Button Band
Ch 50.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and each ch across,
fasten off.
FINISHING
Begin with adjustable ring.
Weave in ends. Position Button Band across front of
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 23 dc into ring,
Hat Body just above Brim. Place a button over each
join with sl st to beg dc – 24 dc.

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in next dc, [dc in
both Button Band and Hat Body. Sew Pom-Pom to top
next dc, 2 dc in next dc] to end, join with sl st to
of hat.

Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in next dc, 2 dc in
next dc, [dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc] to
end, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 – 48 dc.
Rnd 4: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each of next 2 dc,
2 dc in next dc, [dc in each of next 3 dc, 2 dc in
next dc] to end, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 –
60 dc.
Rnd 5: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each of next 3 dc,
2 dc in next dc, [dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in
next dc] to end, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 –
72 dc.
Rnd 6: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each of next 4 dc,
2 dc in next dc, [dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in
next dc] to end, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 –
84 dc.
Rnds 7-15: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in next dc and
each dc to end, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3.
Break yarn.
FINISHING
Weave in ends. Tie Pom-Pom to top of Hat.
FINISHING
Edging
With crochet hook, work single crochet along the
entire lower edge of Hat, along Front, Back, and each
Earflap.
Tassels (make 2)
Wrap yarn 50 times around a 2” piece of cardboard.
Slip another 8” piece of yarn through the center of
the strands and tie in a knot to secure. Cut the other
edge of the wrapped strands to free the tassel from
the cardboard. Set aside.
Ties (make 2)
Cut 12 strands of yarn, 10” long. Separate into 3
groups of 4 strands each. Braid the 3 groups together.
Sew one end to bottom of Earflap. Sew a Tassel to the
other end.
Weave in ends. Sew a Pom-Pom to top of hat.
Crown
Cast on 9 sts to dpns. Divide among ndls and join
to work in the rnd. Knit 1 rnd.
Shape Crown
Rnd 1: * Kfb; rep from * to last st, end k1 – 17 sts.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: * Kfb; rep from * to end – 34 sts.
Rnd 4: * K1, p1; rep from * to end.
Rnd 5: * K1, pfb; rep from * to end – 51 sts.
Rnd 6: * K1, p2; rep from * to end.
Rnd 7: * K1, p2, m1; rep from * to end – 68 sts.
Rnd 8: * K1, p2, k1; rep from * to end.
Hat Body
Work Rows 1-8 of Honeycomb patt, 4 times, then
work Rows 1-2, 1 more time.
Lower Hat
Next row: Bind off next 24 sts (front sts), work in
patt to end – 44 sts rem.
Work back and forth in patt over rem sts for 7
rows, ending with WS row 2 of patt.
