First, superstitions are often based on folk traditions that are

passed down from generation to generation. This means that,

within a community, the ancestors who held that certain actions
(such as having an amulet or repeating certain words) favored
good luck or warded off the negative, transmitted these beliefs
to their descendants.

That said, we could say that many are the superstitions that are
already part of our cultural heritage or tradition.

Now that we are clear about what a superstition is, as a second

point I will go on to name some famous superstitions.

The first one that we have all heard of is that of a black cat
walking towards a person means bad luck. This is a superstition
that emanates from the idea established by the Holy Inquisition
that this animal was a reincarnation of the Devil, Which I think is
nonsense, as I have had a black cat for years and clearly have not
been unlucky at any time.

The second superstition is that when a picture hanging crookedly

falls down, it is bad luck. In this case, this idea is the result of the
belief that existed in Ancient Greece, which said that if this
happened to the portrait of a leader, he would die in a short
period of time.

As a third superstition we have the one of the broken mirror,

many of us know it and it is about the seven years of misfortune
that comes with breaking a mirror. This superstition, in turn,
emanates from the fact that this element was formerly
established as an element of divination and its breakage
indicated that something was going to go very wrong.

As fourth and last superstition we have the one of the birthday

candles that to be honest I had never heard, but not all
superstitions have to be bad and this is a good luck superstition,
which consists in blowing out the birthday candles. This is an
omen of good luck and has its origins in the Middle Ages as it was
then put into effect as a way to leave the past behind.

Finally, In my opinion I think that each of the superstitions affect

us according to the beliefs that we have in them, because if we
think about it too much I think it is a way to attract that, so I
think we should be careful with what we think of the bad
superstitions.
