1. Who was Wilhelm Wundt?

Father of psychology-developed first labs in Leipzig, Germany

2. Who was William James?

Founder of Functionalism

3. Describe Wundt’s Structuralist approach to psychology. Describe the practice of

introspection?
Focused on analyzing consciousness into basic elements. Introspection
explained how one felt about their experiences.

4. What is the difference between sensation and perception?

Sensation can be objective. Makes use of the 5 senses. Perception is
subjective. One may have a different perspective on an experience than
another. Ex, I say a color looks pink, but someone else may say magenta.

5. What is the problem with the practice of introspection (why might it not be valid)?
Instrospection doesn’t provide the “why” we experience situations the
way we do.

6. Describe the functionalist approach to psychology.

Able to study why we experience events the way we do based on what
happens to the body.

7. Describe what is meant by evolutionary “fitness.”

The organism has traits that help them adapt to the environment and they
then can pass on their genes to the next generation.
