What finally happened:

After a scary moment, I managed to leave the room slowly, making sure to stay away from the snake. I
quickly closed the door to stop the snake from moving around the house. I called my dad and uncle, and

Stephen Hawking faced the challenge of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive
neurodegenerative disease that gradually paralyzed him over time. Despite this physical hardship, he
found ways to overcome it and continued to make remarkable contributions to the field of theoretical
physics.

Factors

 Support network: Hawking had a strong support system of family, friends and colleagues. They
provided emotional support, helped him with daily tasks and enabled him to continue his scientific
work.
 Assistive technology: As his physical abilities declined, Hawking turned to assistive technologies,
such as a computerized voice synthesizer. This device allowed him to communicate by selecting
words and phrases with a single cheek muscle, enhancing his ability to express his ideas and
continue his research.
 Inner strength and determination: Hawking demonstrated immense inner strength and
determination throughout his life. He refused to let his physical limitations prevent him from
pursuing knowledge and scientific advances. His indomitable spirit and determination to overcome
obstacles played a major role in his success.

Some of Stephen Hawking's notable achievements include:

 Black Hole Theory: Hawking's groundbreaking research focused on black holes and the nature of the
universe. He proposed the theory of Hawking radiation, which suggests that black holes emit
radiation and eventually evaporate over time.
 Bestselling Book: Hawking's book "A Brief History of Time" became a global bestseller and brought
complex scientific concepts to a wider audience. The book has been instrumental in popularizing
cosmology and inspiring countless individuals to take an interest in physics.
 Academic Contributions: Despite his physical limitations, Hawking held prestigious academic
positions, including the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, a
position previously held by Sir Isaac Newton. He published numerous scientific papers and made
significant contributions to the fields of cosmology, quantum gravity, and the study of black holes.
 Public Engagement and Advocacy: Hawking actively engaged with the public, participating in
lectures, interviews, and documentaries. He used his platform to raise awareness about scientific
topics and disabilities, becoming an inspiration for individuals worldwide.
