What is Problem Solving?

A state of desire for reaching a definite 'goal'

from a present condition that either is not
directly moving toward the goal, is far from
it, or needs more complex logic for finding a
missing description of conditions or steps
toward the goal.

Problem
You are given the objects shown:
a candle, a book of matches, and a box of
tacks.

Your task is to find a way to attach the

candle to the wall of the room, at eye
level, so that it will burn properly and
illuminate the room.
Solution
The key insight in this problem is
that the box that the tacks are
contained in is not just for
holding tacks, but can be used as
a mount, too — again, a change
in the representation.
