Question 1

- The first instance: At the first day, Scoville mentioned that he was not impressed with
MBAs, especially those from Harvard. It made Lisa felt he was acting like an
overbearing big brother.
- The second instance: Scoville talked a lot of about how he can help Lisa learn about
her work. But when she asked Scoville what she could do to help on the brand review,
Scoville only handed her a huge stack of reports to copy without any explanation.

Trait Example supporting the answer

Extraversion– Scoville did not have a good relationship with other departments.
Introversion That is why he usually does not have lunch with other colleagues. The
evidence was shown when he said that some of the successful product
managers and associates only focused on pleasing other people and
playing politics.

Sensing–Intuition Scoville is not a sensitive person. He did not realize what Linton
really need when she asked about what she could do to help on the
brand review. Lisa needed Scoville explanation, not only
documents.

Thinking–Feeling Scoville had a strong belief for his performance and knowledge
when he said that he will teach Lisa all the ropes of product
management.

Judging–Perceiving Scoville is a conservative person who willing to criticize the others


to protect his opinion. That is why he was angry with Lisa about the
assumptions on Pure and Fresh’s pricing strategy.

- Lisa can help Scoville to improve the relationship with the other colleagues. Ex:
Inviting Scoville to have lunch with her and the others. Not only talk about work but
also about their hobbies and their life.
- Lisa should ask for Scoville’s support particularly, not only mention about the topic
and wait until Scoville realize what she need. Otherwise, Lisa also need to suggest
Scoville let she help if he face a problem.

Question 3

The area of this situation represents is hidden area.

- Lisa should request leave to speak her opinion in the meeting although she was in the
“leaning mode” but she also let them know what she has learned about Pure & Fresh.
Lisa must keep the right attitude and tone during the state and ask for Linton and
Scoville to feedback.
- Lisa should ask Linton for the comfortable task which is suitable to her skills and try to
prove her abilities such as analytical skill.

Question 4

- Linton should ask Lisa to turn off “learning mode” and turn on “proving mode”
immediately. Linton need to let Lisa know what her expectation about Lisa is.
- Linton should set a small talk with Lisa about the improvement solutions for her
performance. She must point out the reason and what Lisa need to improve the
performance. After that, Linton need to hear Lisa’s explanation and encourage her.
Question 5

- Linton should encourage Lisa performance after a task before pointing out Lisa’s
weakness.
- Linton should hold a team building activity to connect Lisa with the other members.
Let them know more about each other can help the task will be done smoothly.
- Linton must find out Lisa’s strengths and give the suitable tasks to her. Otherwise,
Linton should help Lisa to improve her skill based on Linton’s knowledge.

Yes, Scoville was angry with Lisa when they have an argument about the last-minute
corrections on the marketing plan and he complained that argument to Linton. Linton also
protect Scoville and yelled at Lisa, she did not let Lisa explain anything.

Question 7

Yes, Lisa should quit that job. These are 3 arguments:

- Linton – her boss was not a good manager who can manage and inspire the
subordinates. From the beginning, she showed her bias about MBAs from Harvard.
She also lacks listening skill and sympathy with Lisa.
- Her colleague – Scoville is a stubborn and impolite person. He always acts like a big
brother but when Lisa really needs a support, he just cares about how to prove himself.
- Lisa’s background is outstanding, she has a lot of chances from the other companies.
She should waste her time at a bad team and a job she was not interesting. The
evidence is she was offered for Director of Marketing position at Right-Away.
