Machine Updates

• Identify the machine updates. The changes to the 988K Wheel Loader, 834K Wheel Dozer, and 836K Landfill
Compactor include the engine, the engine enclosure, the operator’s station, the
implement hydraulic system, the steering system, and the brake/hydraulic fan
system.

The most significant change to the wheel loaders are the engines. The engines meet
the Tier IV final EPA Regulations and European Union Stage IIIb emission control
standards. The engine enclosure has also changed significantly. The rear of the
enclosure opens to allow for servicing of the cooling system without raising the entire
engine enclosure. The entire engine enclosure will raise to service the engine, the
aftertreatment system, and other components located in the engine compartment.

NOTE: The LRC (lesser regulated countries) models are equipped with a
C18 engine with ACERT technology that meets Tier 2/Stage II emissions
regulations.

The operator’s station for the wheel loaders has also changed. The operator’s
station features a new dash cluster, switches, and operator controls.

The power train on the updated 988K/834K/836K machines is similar to the power
train on the earlier model machines. The hydraulic system hose routing has changed
and the torque converter oil filter has been eliminated.

The 988K is equipped with an updated ride control valve, an updated load sensing
