1. There are 8 rooms in a house. Each room has 2 doors. Each door has 3
handles at each door. How many handles are there in total?
(3 Marks)

Solution:

Number of handles on each door = 3

Number of doors in each room = 2

Number of rooms in the house = 8

Number of handles in each room = 2 × 3

= 6 handles

Number of handles in the house = 6 × 8

= 6 × (3 + 5)

= (6 × 3) + (6 × 5)

= 18 + 30

= 48
Thus, there are 48 handles in the house.
