LOCATION

Our Vyasanakere Iron Ore Mine, an open cast iron ore mine, is located in the Bellary-
Hospet region of Karnataka State and is one of the largest Iron Ore mines in the
private sector in this region. The mine is located within a 347.22 hectare area and is
located about 2.5 Km from the National Highway No.13. By road the mine is approx.
23 Km south of Hospet and 413 Km east of the seaport of Goa.
The Vyasanakere railway station is only 3 Km from the mine and is accessible by a
dedicated road that runs between the mine and the railway sidings, providing direct rail
access to several regional and major cities and ports. By rail the Station is around 12
Km south of Hospet and 573 Km west of the seaport of Chennai.
VIOM is one of the largest Iron Ore mine in the private sector in the Bellary-Hospet
region of Karnataka State. Float ore mining activity for Iron Ore began here during
1962. Mechanization began in 1977 with the introduction of excavators and pay
loaders. Presently, the mine is mechanized to handle approximately seven million
metric tons of ore and waste per annum.
In 1981, a small-scale processing plant was installed, and in 1991, a downhill
conveyor system was introduced. A beneficiation plant was introduced in 1993 and a
larger capacity crushing and beneficiation plant was added in 2002.
Quality :
Quality is a passion at viom. Every thing that moves out of viom premises bears the
stamp of quality .the guiding principle is that properties of iron ore cannot be altered,
it cannot be an excuse for our discerning customers.
Quality monitoring starts much before the actual mining operation.an elaborate
exploration of the mine is undertaken.the face samples are drawn and analyzed.

Sampling and analysis undertaken.at the time of excavation to confirm the results of the
exploration.the process plant is the next stage of sampling whereby proper working of the
plant is assessed. The final product is then analyzed before dispatch and the proper blend is
ascertained.

The following activity briefly describes quality standards followed at the mines :

 Face samples are taken and analyzed for physical and chemical properties on a day
to day basis
 Blast hole drill cuttings are collected at different depths
 Selective mining is being done for different grades and contamination
 Samples are taken from each truck. Average sample is prepared and analyzed
 Different stock piles are made of end products from screening plant.these stock piles
are analyzed before dispatching to customer
 Samples are drawn at loading point by qualified and experienced persons like
geologist, chemist, and samplers is formed to monitor the qulity and to process the
feed .

reserves at an average grade of 65.0% fe, and 8.53 million tones of probable iron ore
reserves at an average grade of 64.5% fe, for a total of 29.36 million tones of reserves
at an overall average grade of 64.8% fe.

MSPL Exports now called as MSPL EOU-II. Another 100% EOU is established at
Vyasanakere Iron Ore Mine for crushing and screening.
Crushing & Screening Plant
In the primary processing plants the ore is initially crushed and screened into three
categories of material:

 Fines (0-10 mm)

 Calibrated lump ore (10-35 mm)
 Oversize (+35 mm)

Oversize ore is sent to our secondary crusher, where it is further crushed into fines and
calibrated lump ore. This calibrated lump ore is sent to the reprocessing plant, where
excess fines are removed. These fines are further wet screened and classified into:

 Aggregates (1-10 mm)

 Concentrates (0-1 mm)

Processing of iron ore

The iron ore produced from the viom is rich in iron ore contenty with low
impurities.the iron ore is recoverd in the form of lumps [40%]&fines[60%].

The iron ore produced from the mines is transported to the crushing plant &dry
screening at the crusher plant located a the foot of the outside the mine lease area for
the final product Recovery. The waste generated from the working pit is directly
disposed to the dump area located with in the mining lease area .

The run of mine is subjected gravity size operation at the working pit for removal of
fines &oversize is transported to the beneficial plant for crushing. The crushed ore
passed through vibratory screens to yield three products namely +35mm;-35mm;&-
10mmsize.+35mm size is recycled to secondary crusher for 30mm to +10mm&-10mm.

Thus only two final products are produced . the iron ore of greater than +10mm as per
consumer requirements .

The waste generated from the working pit is directly disposed to the dump areas
located with in the mining lease area .the crushed ore is passed through the vibratory
screens to yield three products namely +30mm,30mm,+10mmsize.
MINING METHODOLOGY:

Viom is adopting mechanized opencast mining methodology. It involves development of

benches of 7meters high, drilling, blasting, screening, and loading of blasting material by
excavators into tippers, Transportation of finest end users and lumps to crushing plant.

For wining iron ore and to avoid contamination phylite is stripped and removed in advance to
expose the iron ore deposit .the over burden is remove with the help of hydraulic shovel
without drilling and blasting wheel loader tippers are used for loading and transporting of
blasted material from the working faces .

The development work on foot wall is being done by push back method parallel to the quarry
of deepening.

CRUSHER AND SCREENING PLANT OF 150TPH:

The run of mine feed to bunkers where over size materials are separated from static grizzly.
the rest of passed through feed hopper to vibro grizzly to separate -80mm size to bypass
primary crusher and by passed -80mm is conveyed to primary screening through bc-1[Belk
conveyer][double deck].

Where material is separate into three fractions namely:-10mm,+10mm to -35mm and +

35mm is feed to secondary screen [double deck]by bc -3,where again ,material is split into
three fractions namely-10mm[fines]+10mm to -35mm[clo-clibrated ore ] and
+35mm[oversize ].+35mm[over size is recycled ….]

All the iron ore is half sale able grade .after crushing and screening, the calibrated ore and
fines are supplied to mmtc, cement plant and other exporters.

Waste generation:

The major sources of waste from mining activities are that of overburden or mine waste that
is continually generated during mining. Our mining operations are carried out in a mine area
of 347.22 Ha, under reserve forest land that have been leased out to us by the government.
The lease procured includes an additional 3.56 Ha for approach roads to the mines, totaling
the leased area to over 350.78 Ha.
Our dumping of waste material in non ore bearing
areas is carried out as per approved mining plan.
Old dump yards are terraced into different platforms
and are planted with tree species
This necessitates our constant efforts to manage mine waste and also rehabilitate areas of
forest land that
can be productively used, before handing over to the forest department. We engage
excavators to remove waste material and dumpers to transport the waste to designated
dumps. Our dumping of waste material in non-ore bearing areas is carried out as per
approved mining plans. Old dump yards are terraced into different platforms and planted
with different tree species. Also seeds are strewn across dumps with higher potential to foster
germination. These steps conserve soil erosion and
prevent run off and siltation of valleys and nearby water bodies. We have also constructed
bunds to arrest boulders from rolling down. Active dumps are
also terraced immediately and plantations undertaken for quick stabilization. Over the years,
the top soil removed from reef section has been brought down to reclaim the float ore mined
area. This has transformed a stretch of barren area to lush green land. Other wastes include
scrap like metal, rubber and tyres. These are generated from activities including the use of
equipment and machinery. These are segregated and kept at specified locations until they are
responsibly disposed to government certified agents.

Conclusion:
I fianly conlude my work with the following points and explanations best to my
knowledge &my experience during this survey mentioned below

 Employees traning needs should be assessed yearly that is at least twice In a year
.
 The company organized different traning and leadership programme in order to
increase productivity .
 The company should hike the salary according to the performance of the
workers so that they can get satisfied with the salary and the job they perform.
 The success of this mining truly depends upon their management .
