Introductory Message

For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the TLE-Electrical Installation and Maintenance 10 on Electrical

Tools

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

LESSON

Every electrician should have adequate tools, instruments and equipment so he

can work efficiently obtain better results and save time and effort. He has to
maintain proper care of this tools and instruments to ensure their good condition.

Proper care of Tools and Maintenance

Make it a habit to clean tools after each use before you return them to storage.
Wipe them down with a rag or old towel and be sure they are free of dust, grease
and debris before you put them into their proper places. This is also an opportunity
to look for any damage or defects.
Preventive maintenance is the systematic care and protection of tools, equipment,
machines, and vehicles in order to keep them in a safe, usable condition, that
limits downtime and extends productivity
The most simple and effective way to clean hand tools is to wipe them with
a clean piece of cloth at the end of the job. Don't be afraid to wash them. If the
hand tools are too dirty, wash them with soapy water to wipe away the grime.
Remember to dry these tools to avoid rusting and corrosion.
Useful quality tools can be a significant investment, but they will last longer and
return the favor if you take good care of them. Making sure your devices are
properly stored, cleaned, and well maintained will save you time and money, as
well as making your projects and jobs much more comfortable.
Here's some tips and tricks to take better care of your tools.
• Store your tools properly.
• Only use tools in working order.
• Avoid rust – tools number one enemy!
• If they need it, repair your tools.
• Quality not quantity.
• Clean your tools after every use.
• Keep some tools handy.

Basic Maintenance of electrical tools

1. Clean out the dust – to make sure that your electric tools are ready to go

when you are, keep them clean and free of dust spend some time to clean

out of the dust every once in a while on your tools while they are inactive in

storage.
TLE-EIM10Q4M2page8

2. Check the cords – Look for tear or cut insulator on the power cords, This will

ensure that electric tools can get the power that it needs to function without

an accident.

3. Use the right tool correctly – use the tools correctly and for their intended

purpose, follow the safety directions and operating procedures recommended

by the manufacturer, when working on a circuit, use approved tools with

insulated handles.

4. Protect your tools – Keep tools and cords away from the heat, oil and sharp

objects. These hazards can damage insulation if a tool or cord heat ups. Stop

using it. Report the condition to the supervisor or teacher immediately.

5. Use double insulated tools – portable electrical tools are classified by the

number of insulation barriers between the electrical conductors in the tool

and the worker.

6. Storing your tools – keep your electric tools stored in their original cases and

containers this will keep them free of dust and dirt while they are not in

used.
Classification of Non – Functional and Functional Tools
- Tools are very useful to us in our homes specially to our jobs, but
tools that are no longer functional may cause harm.
A. Make an inventory of functional and non-functional tools in
your shop.
B. Classify your tools according to its function.
Methods of identifying Non Functional Tools and Equipment
1. Visual Inspection – It refers to the visual observation of an expert on the
appearance of the tools and equipment.
2. Functionality – Vibration or extra noise from the operation means problems
on the parts and accessories started to develop.
3. Performance when there is something wrong with the performance of either
hand tools or equipment they need an intermediate repair or maintenance
4. Power supply for electrically operated only failure to meet the requirements
power supply malfunction will occurs in the part of hand tools or equipment.
5. Persons involved – it refers to the technical person who has the knowledge
and skills about the technology.
Non – Functional Tools and Equipment
Non-Functional Tools and Equipment are those that are not available to perform
its regular function because of impaired and damage part.
