Charles Villiers Stanford

(1852-1924)

Stanford, a composer born in Ireland and working in England, was a significant

figure of the late Victorian period. His writing of cathedral music brought a new
and fresh quality to the variously sentimental, bombastic, and sugary styles of
the Victorian period's worship music. This Jubilate Deo is from Stanford's
Complete Service in Bb (1879), and with the other movements from that service
that ended with an Amen, employs a version of the Dresden Amen.
