Chapter (9) Chapter End Test

1. ABC is a triangle, and BE, CF are the perpendiculars drawn to the sides
AC, AB. Prove that α (Δ ABE): α (Δ ACF) = AB2 : AC 2 .
2. ABC is a triangle such that BC: CA: AB = 3: 4: 5. If BPC, CQA, ARB
are equilateral triangles, prove that α (Δ BPC) + α (Δ CQA) = α (Δ ARB).
3. In Δ PQR, ∠ P = 90°, and PS ⊥ QR. If QR = 3PQ, prove that SR = 8QS.
4. A, B, C, D are four points in order on a circle O, so that AB is a diameter
and ∠COD = 90°. AD produced and BC produced meet at E. Prove that α
(Δ ECD) = α (ABCD).
5. In ∆ PQR, QR = 16 cm. The point Y on PR is such that PY= 3cm, YR=
5cm. The point X on PQ is such that XY∥ QR. Find the length in cm of
XY. If α (Δ PXY) = 6 cm2, then find α (QXYR).
6. The chords XB and AY of a circle intersect at S. If XS = 4 cm, SA = 5
cm, then prove that Δ XYS ~Δ ABS, and hence, find α (Δ XYS): α (Δ
ABS).
7. ∆ ABC is bisected by a line PQ drawn parallel to its base BC. In what
ratio does PQ divide the sides of the triangle?
8. ADX and BCX are two segments such that ∠BAC=∠BDC. Prove that
α (Δ ABX ) AB 2
= .
α ( ΔCDX ) CD 2

9. ABC is a right triangle with A the right angle. E and D are points on
opposite side of AC, with E on the same side of AC as B, such that ∆
ACD and ∆ BCE are both equilateral. If α (Δ BCE)=2 α (Δ ACD), prove
that ABC is an isosceles right triangle.
