Executive Summary

From this project we are going to understand that for a business to run effectively and
efficiently and for all functions coordination and correlation can be improved through
efficient use of Information systems.

Company in case Sanelac consultant that provide MEP consultancy for Commercials,
residential, hospitality, airport, embassies and government buildings. (Annexure-1)

It was formed in 1984 and expanded it offices during first decade of inception

Objective of study is to analyse how Sanelac transformed into a information system savvy
company post 2000 by adopting use of advanced information systems and help company in
winning bid for Hospitality projects in Qatar for FIFA world cup that was held in December
2022.

Further we will analyse that which information systems and how they were implemented in
company and what were key factors that helped transformation of company revenue,
clientele, brand value and customer loyalty.
Company Overview

Before going on to company introduction a brief about MEP consultancy contribution

towards infrastructure and human comfort all over world is mentioned below-

MEP consultancy identifies critical mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems to improve
the building’s functionality. Lighting, water pipelines and HVAC systems are designed and
installed to ensure power savings and cost reduction.

Further MEP is abbreviation for mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering to make
building suitable for living and indispensable for human existence since ancient ages as Indus
valley civilisation. These services not only reduce the cost but also improve the performance
of equipment and compliance with government regulations as per demography. MEP services
are integral part of any construction project for development of populace of any region, state
or country.

These systems regulate the environment of building despite harsh ambient conditions outside
the envelope of the building and assist in completing holistic job, family and business
requirements.

Sanelac Consultancy firm started the operations by a group of enthusiastic professionals in

the field of Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Engineering design. They are amongst the
few of the young professionals, having work experience from leading organisations in the
Engineering Consultancy Services field and have built a strong reputation through our
commitment, integrity, ability to add value, and capability to think from the costumer’s mind
and deliver project design on time.

Key services- complete design solution in field of, HVAC- Heating, ventilation and air-

Business environment

India- Real estate in India reached 200 billion USD in FY 2021 making it one of the most
lucrative markets in world and is expected to touch 1 trillion USD by 2030, with such high
growth there is requirement of quality consultancy firms that can design all Architectural,
MEP services.

Outside India- Infra consultancy woks in Gulf, Latin America, Europe and USA is out
sourced to India, it had quadrupled since last decade and in fact one of the largest in Asia 50
billion USD consultancy works were out sourced to India in 2020.

Reasons for outsourcing to India=

1) Vast improvement in Information systems in 20 years

2) Cost advantage
3) Commitment towards awarded works.
4) Quality of engineering consultancy have improved vastly
5) Big pool of engineers every year 1.5 million engineers are graduating every year, and
there is improvement in pedagogy of colleges.
6) Vicinity to Middle East so site or design visits can be planned on short notice.

This creates new opportunity for consultancy firms to have increased revenue and profits.

Information systems

According to the NBS National BIM Report 2019, 63% of those who have adopted BIM
feel that they have done so successfully, and 55% of those yet to adopt it think they’ll get
left behind if they don’t. Looking ahead, 63% anticipate that they’ll need to use BIM on
all projects

Sanelac consultant management was aware of rapidly changing design environment and
across the globe and need for upgradation of old Information system used in firm.
They were also aware of benefits of investing in advanced Information systems outweighs
the cost of purchasing IS, they finally decided to use-

1) Building information modelling and Revit.

2) Aconex (Drawing tracker software)
3) Updating old HR apps and introducing employee learning and development plans.

New IS Revit replaced Old IS 2D AutoCAD- Revit software application was introduced
and model generation is depicted in pictures below, it was seen that using 3D modelling
co-ordination was better and alignment of all activities as compared to earlier 2d
AutoCAD modelling and after application of information system 3D modelling was
introduced and applied that worked wonders with effective application of information
system

2) Aconex software- Sanelac was using dilapidated excel sheet for tracking of each and
every drawing and schedule which made process very tedious to update and manage
superseded drawings, very often resulted in sending old drawing to client instead of revised
one that was matter of embarrassment for Sanelac few times.

Sanelac introduce Oracle Aconex software which resulted in drastic improvement in tracking
and updating drawings, same software was accessed by Architect, MEP consultant, Structure
consultant and client at same time and it resulted in better coordination and timely updating
of drawings and increased brand value.
3.) Updating of old HR apps- Sanelac updated old HR app and added learning and
Development features with modules and employee was given to complete assignments
regarding learning of new Information system within specific time frame that helped in
understanding adopted information systems easily

Sanelac Strategy and business objectives-

Sanelac consultant identified key business objective-

1) Operational excellence
2) Improved decision making
3) Competitive advantage.

Management was aware that purchasing Revit and implementation was easy thing most
important part was how to implement so Sanelac focused on dimensions of Information
systems.
Sanelac consultancy held training of Information systems by having sessions with IS experts
for various functions and help them understand value of Information systems and technical
and behavioural aspects.

Training was held for one week and assessing sessions in HR app bi monthly to assess the
progress.

All three dimensions combing increased the efficiency and staff was able to understand value
of Information systems.

Results & Conclusion

1) Cost reduction- Use of Revit modelling system reduced rework that used to occur
earlier due to conflict of MEP services in ceiling or landscaping, this was greatly
reduced due to modelling and assessment of conflict on prior designing stage itself
that was earlier identified during execution and installation of mock-ups at site
months after designing and that resulted in revised designing and again coordination
with Architect and other consultants.

2) Operational excellence & Improved decision making- Design Sequence of

activities- Architectural design> MEP inputs and layouts on Architectural drawing>
design review from structural and other consultants> GFC issuance to site (Good for
construction)—if any comment from site, redesigning from step 1

Use of Revit enabled Conflict resolution on prior designing stage enable Sanelac to achieve
efficient coordination and conflict resolution instant correction by subsequent consultants.

That reduced project life cycle time by 50 % and team was able to handle multiple projects.

3) Competitive advantage and timely delivery with quality- Customer satisfaction

was achieved by timely deliveries of good for construction drawings that helped client
building his image to end user and subsequently image of Sanelac consultant.
