DEATH

End of my journey here on earth that is what may come to my mind after hearing the word death. It
really means that I will no longer be able to do what I can do if I am alive. Everything has been
brought to a sudden halt. All the cells in my body has ceased functioning.

Death is certain to everyone born to this world but time of death cannot be determined by anyone. I
do not understand when some say that death was timely or untimely. Each person has his/her
unique time of death as designed by the creator.

With the few years that I have witnessed here on earth, it seems death unveils some hidden
negative characters of relatives. The greediness of relatives is also seen after the death of their
assumed loved one.

Death really brings havoc to survivors, mostly spouses and children. It is not only the body cells
which are no longer functioning, even those hustles that we used to do to provide for our families
will be no more.

Just imagine, my father was a bread winner both to his family and siblings. Death decided to take his
life when I was only 5. At that time I have just started my primary education journey. My mother
was totally depended on my father’s income. Moreover my five other siblings were still going to
school. I will not mention situation with his extended families.

Relatives attended the funeral, took what they think would be good farewell presents to them from
the deceased. At that juncture, nobody thinks that the deceased has children who need school fees
or somewhere to start their new lives.

Some relatives we last saw them at the funeral. So I do not know, does death actually cut ties with
our relatives? We were related because they were related to my father. This might seem
unbelievable but it is so real after you are gone.

After the death of their parents, children becomes homeless, some become school drop outs due to
lack of fees. Some they last taste a good meal on their parents’ funeral. Some the day of their
parents’ funeral is the last day to see smiling faces of their aunts and uncles. In most cases, this does
not actually mean their parents died poor. Some parents would have left a legacy that their children
could make a good stepping stone.

It is so heart breaking to know that the dead have no control over the living. Hear me out here, there
are legal ways in which the living may plan how their estates (assets and liabilities) can be handled
for the benefit of their beneficiaries. Please get next month magazine where we will discuss about
will writing.
