Introduction:Tourism is a social, cultural and economic phenomenon
which requires the movement of people to countries or
places outside their usual environment for personal or
business purposes. It typically requires the tourist to feel
engaged in a genuine experience of the location they are
visiting.
Travel and tourism have been one of the main industries
to be gravely affected by COVID-19. According to the
World Tourism Organization, global tourism suffered its
worst year on record in 2020, with international arrivals
dropping by 74 percent. The country with the biggest
tourism revenue loss due to COVID-19 is the United
States. It suffered with a total revenue loss of 30.7 million
dollars which is approximately 2.4 million rupees.Tourism in India:
India is the most digitally advanced traveller nation in
terms of digital tools being used for planning, booking
and experiencing a journey. India’s rising middle class
and increasing disposable income has supported the
growth of domestic and outbound tourism.
Our country is naturally and culturally endowed with
many beautiful and attractive places that have fascinated
people around the world. India is known for its unity in
diversity that enriches it with people from many cultures,
traditions and religions which is the big reason for good
tourism here.Types of tourism in India:
In India, many types of tourism play major economic
importance for rapid development. The types of tourism
in India are as follows:-
1. Adventure Tourism - Adventure tourism has recently
grown in India. This involves exploration of remote
areas and locales and engaging in various activities
like trekking, paragliding, bungee jumping, etc.
. Wildlife Tourism - India has a rich forest cover which
has some beautiful species of wildlife, some of which
are even endangered and very rare. These places are
also the best tourist spots for birdwatching.
. Wellness Tourism - India is one of the top places in
the world known for wellness. Yoga, Meditation and
Ayurveda are the oldest and most effective ways of
treatment. Both domestic and international tourists
explore those methods.
4. Dark Tourism - India’s many travelling spots are
included in the category of dark tourism. Dark
tourism is connected with places that have
experienced death, pain and mystery. It is popular for
those who are interested in history and want to
discover dark untold past stories.

wTourism development in Ind
Tourism development is the process of establishing and
maintaining a tourism industry in a particular location. At
its most fundamental level, tourism development can be
defined as the process of developing strategies and plans
to increase, develop and encourage tourism ina
particular destination.
Indian tourism is strongly affected by terrorism, insecurity
and pollution in the country. However, the sincere efforts
of the Government of India are continuing to develop the
Indian tourism industry. The Ministry of Tourism designs
national policies for the development and promotion of
tourism. In order to encourage people, a tourism
campaign named ‘Incredible India’ was launched by the
Indian Tourism Development Corporation in 2005.any Wats

India is one of the popular tourist destinations in Asia.
The enchanting backwaters, hill stations and landscapes
make India a beautiful country. The advantages of
tourism in India are as follows:-
1. Employment - Tourism can provide a much-needed
employment for the people in India. It provides jobs
in hotels, restaurants and other tourism-related
industries. It also helps sustain services so that
tourists can enjoy their vacations even more.
. Cross-Cultural - It promotes international connections
which can bring more business and cultural
collaborations. Tourism creates new friendships and
builds favourable relationships between India and
other countries.
nN3. Foreign Exchange earning - Many tourist destinations

Unfortunately, tourism can also be a source of problems,
especially if it is not managed well. The disadvantages of
tourism in India are as follows:-
1. Communication - It is challenging for tourists to
communicate in a language they barely understand
in foreign countries and states. Learning English may
also not be helpful in some circumstances.2. Safety - India is placed at 114th position in terms of
safety. The tourism sector should become strict and
should pass laws against those criminals who cheat
the innocent tourists.
3. Lack of Infrastructure - It is a major challenge for the
Indian tourism sector. This includes hotels, health
facilities, transportation etc. The major reason for
this unconcern is a poor allocation of money in the
budget.
4, Imbalanced Funding - Money can end up being
directed to tourist areas when it could be used more
effectively elsewhere in a country. The locals who
don’t live in specific tourist areas miss out and suffer
relative decline.

Promoting tourism in India:
India is one of the most popular tourist destinations in
Asia and has been successful in attracting domestic andinternational tourists. A few ways to promote tourism in
India are as follows:-
1. Create experiences rather than just attractions - The
tourism industry needs to manipulate destinations as
experiences. The tours need to be filled with tour
guides, activities for the children, culinary tours,
interactivity for the tourist with the culture of the
place, etc.
. Cleanliness and hygiene - Basic facilities such as
restrooms near attractions and garbage bins are
what we lack. Even if some of our attractions might
have those, they are left in horrible conditions.
. Enhance security protocols - We need to implement
enhanced security protocols to ensure the safety of
tourists.
4. Marketing Strategies - When it comes to tourism,
social media is the best option these days. Our
official tourist websites need to be updated to inform
the readers and travelers well.

wConclusion:
India is a country with a great potential for tourism.
Bounded by the Himalayan ranges in the north and
surrounded by the Arabian sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian
Ocean, India offers a wide array of places to see and
things to do. India serves as the hub of different cultures
and languages within it and has always attracted
domestic and international tourists.
Things have now started looking bright for the Indian
tourism industry. However, the Indian tourism industry
has been hit by pollution. The condition of many of our
monuments is deteriorating due to the negligence of the
concerned authorities. The natural environment and
heritage sites remain a source of attraction as long as
these are not damaged beyond control from their
degradation or pollution.
Tourism has played a very vital role in reviving India’s art
and culture. According to the latest estimates of the world
travel and tourism council, this industry is expected to
generate about 6 percent of India’s total employment.
Tourists from foreign countries show a keen interest in the
rich culture and heritage of India and this boosts the
morale of the small artisans and adds to their novelty.
