Glycerin Products: Storage and Shelf Life Guidelines

051000 USP-NF Glycerin – Excipient/Food Use Only

Storage Guidelines
ADM Refined Glycerin products listed below are supplied in bulk tank trucks, railcars, drums or totes.
Bulk Glycerin should be stored in stainless steel for FDA approved lined tanks. The product should be
stored at ambient to slightly heated conditions to enable handling. Excessive heat to the product could
result in product degradation.

Temperature
ADM recommends a handling temperature of 105-125 °F for pumping glycerin products as viscosity
increases with decreasing temperature. Customer system capabilities should determine needed
handling temperatures.

Shelf Life
Glycerin is generally chemically and microbiological stable if kept near ambient temperatures. Product
stored in vented tanks may increase in water over time due to the hygroscopic nature of glycerin. Shelf
life of glycerin is 24 months when stored below 100°F in a closed container.
