Traditional African civilization are relevant to the Zimbabwean society. Discuss.

Traditional African ways of life become more civilized from the early Iron Age and this civilisation is
relevant to Zimbabwean society. There are several reasons that include trading, political systems,
division of labour, mining and agriculture. The use of minerals like Iron and gold that was mined brings
greater improvement in the economic system of the state because they has important uses and on
demand too. Key terms to be defined are Traditional African Civilisation.

Definitions of terms must be written

In traditional Africans practice Agriculture were they grew variety of crops and rearing animals. The
crops grown were finger millet, sorghum, rapoko etc, even leguminous crops were grown also. Some of
these crops were used for brewing traditional beer on ceremonies. The beer was made up of sorghum
and itself played an excellent and important social role. Bourdillon (1982)supports the above by further
arguing that the grains was used for barter trade during the time of serious drought and famine. Africans
become skilled producers of traditional grains and they have good knowledge of their climate change,
whether and soil. They gained vast experience to plant right grain crops in right soil and right time of the
year. Main of these crops were drought resistant. Madenge (1988)argues that these crops were less
prone to pest, both in field and storage. These crops require less fertilizer than maize grown nowadays
The requirement of artificial fertilizers today is not a thing that many farmers meet today

Cattle raising and crop production were complementary. Sweet sorghum reeds were chewed like sugar
cane but nowadays used as chicken feeds and stalks used as animal feeds. Garlake (1973)support the
above in cattle hypothesis that he used to explain the rise of pre colonial state like Great Zimbabwe and
Rozvi state. However Beach (1983) argued that the production of crops was largely labour intensive but
it brings people together in cooperatives, work creating spirit of oneness or togetherness which bond
them in cordial social relation of production.
