Why Polygamy?
The family are excommunicated from
the Apostolic United Brethren (AUB), a
fundamentalist mormon group whose
main beef with mainstream mormons is
polygamy. Christine's grandfather
Rulon, along with Robyn's ex-husband's
grandfather and one other guy started
the AUB in the 1950s after breaking
with another polygamist subset.
The AUB believes that you need to
marry as many women as you can
reasonably maintain in order to gain
the highest order possible in the
celestial kingdom.

They follow the "Law of Sarah,"

meaning the wife/wives must approve
any new woman entering the family.
The AUB preaches that scripture is
unchanging, so if Joseph Smith was told
to be polygamist, so should they.
Many members still follow the teaching
that black people are cursed with the
mark of Cain.
