These black/Day-Glo yellow ones are primarily for enduro/motard riders but as a summer

Still beautiful in Cape Town even during the
massive drought

Natalie’s opinion
It is very hard to form a solid opinion on
a bike when you only ride it for an hour or
two tops because, as you well know, your
thinking will probably change over time.
For example, if you initially love a bike, after
a few hours in the saddle, you might end
up hating it. This is exactly what happened
on the South African launch down in Cape
Town recently where I was left a bit un-
decided (and a bit irritated) on the riding
characteristics of the bike because we were
pressed for time. But, having said this, I
would like to mention, and what Bill failed
to do, is the build quality of these funky,
progressive looking motorcycles. Yes, they
are a bit more expensive because of who
the target market is and because of the
Husqvarna badge on the tank, but the build
quality is outstanding. These little bikes are
really well put together and you can see
the attention to detail on every inch when
walking around the bike.
In the next few months we will be pitting
these light to medium weight bikes again
some of their competitors in the market
place and I will be able to ride them a bit
longer. Only then will we truly see how the
‘Pilens compare to their rivals. Looking
forward to that!

heart of the new Battlax Sport Touring
T31 Concept is the enhanced wet grip
and handling while maximising contact
feel, so that riders feel safe and in
control, free to enjoy the thrill of every
ride.

Working on the front compound,

Bridgestone used its latest nano tech-
nology which works at the molecular
level to improve the dispersion of silica
in the compound mix. This increases
rubber flexibility which improves the
contact (bite) feel of the surface and
enhances grip in wet and low-tem-
perature conditions.

The rear tyre features a triple-layer

compound in a cap and base configu-
ration construction, providing the ideal
balance between grip and cornering
stability.

The T31 tread pattern is designed

with a higher void ratio on the shoul-
ders, for higher water drainage, and
reduced void ratio in the centre area of
the rear tread, to maintain good high-
speed stability. The contact patch is up
to 7% larger, from upright to full lean
angle, generating a higher camber
thrust for more confident cornering.

Bridgestone tests confirm that T31

has a higher friction coefficient on
wet than its predecessor, recording
3% faster lap times on a wet handling
track. The whole T31 package has
been developed without sacrificing
any of the outstanding wear life of its
predecessor.

Thomas ‘we rode various bikes over

very mountainous twisty roads, my
favourite bike was the R1200 R and
the Multi Strada and we had the main
stands scraping on some very unfor-
giving roads. Quite astounding what
sports touring tyres can do’.

So in summary, Bridgestone has

some very capable tyres for the new
bike market, so pop down to your
nearest dealer and get a set fitted.

Roman Holiday’s Vespa

One of the most popular powered
two-wheelers ever, the first Vespa
scooter, the ‘98’, was launched in
1946. By 1951 this had evolved into
the Vespa 125 most famous for
being ridden by Gregory Peck and
Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday,
helping boost sales further. The
machine used in the movie is now
