Clerk Let’s see. It weighs a little over twenty pounds, so that’ll be $31.60.
Woman Twenty pounds! I didn’t know it was heavy! Here you are. I have the exact change
Clerk Great! Thanks! Next, please
Man I’d like to send this package to Rome. How long will it take to get there if I send it by
surface mail?
Clerk It may take as long as six weeks
Man Six weeks! But I’ve often sent packages by surface mail, and it’s never taken that long.
Clerk Well, it’s pretty busy at this time of year. And we’ve had more problems than usual
this month.
Man Well, this package has to be in Rome by the first of next month. How much faster is it
by air mail?
Clerk A lot faster. It’ll be there in less than a week, but it’s much more expensive
Man That’s O.K. I’ll send it air mail. How much will that be?
Clerk Let’s weight it and see…. Five pounds … That’ll be $27,90. Will there be anything else?
Man Yes. I’ll take 50 twenty-five cent stamps too, please.
Clerk Fifty- twenty-fives? Here you go.
Man Thanks. Oh, will that package go out today?
Clerk It’s possible, but it’s 3.30 now and the air mail usually goes out by about 3 o’clock. I’ll
see what I can do.
