“The Maze Runner” by James Dashner is a sci-fi dystopian novel - a world filled with

action, danger, and the struggle to survive. Thomas, the protagonist, wakes up in a dark
elevator (referred to in the story as “the Box”); with no memory of his past or how he
got there. He finds himself in “the Glade”, a self-sustaining community encircled by a
vast maze infested with dangerous creatures known as "the Grievers". Thomas, along
with a group of other teenage boys, must navigate the unpredictable maze and discover
a way out of it. The Gladers, like Thomas, have no idea why or how they arrived to the
Glade. All they know is that the stone doors to the maze, that surrounds the Glade,
open every morning and shut every night. Every 30 days, a new boy is delivered in the
Box. Thomas was expected. However, a girl is sent up the next day, the Glade's first girl,
carrying a terrifying message.

Dashner has written the story in a very engaging manner. The characters are well-
developed and likeable, each with their own particular personalities and imperfections.
Thomas, the protagonist, is curious, brave, and determined to discover his way out of
the maze. However, the supporting characters in the novel could have been more
developed, and I wanted to know more about their pasts and motives.

One of the most powerful aspects of "The Maze Runner" is the writer's careful
description of the Glade, its intricate maze, and the eerie sense of confinement that
surrounds the characters, allowing readers to visualize its towering walls and feel the
tension that dominates the air.

The pace of the story was a bit uneven, sometimes fast and sometimes slow. Though
this might be an issue for many readers, it kept me on edge the whole time, urging me
to turn the pages in search of answers.  Also, considering the fact that I am not a big fan
of stories narrated in the third person’s perspective, I was surprised that I still found
myself captivated by the story.

In conclusion, "The Maze Runner" is a thrilling dystopian story that combines action,

mystery, and survival. It is a very fascinating story for fans of this genre, thanks to its
realistic setting, relatable characters, and great storytelling. Despite a few pace errors
and unsolved mysteries, the overall charm of the novel will leave readers wanting more.
"The Maze Runner" is a must-read for everyone looking for an exciting adventure!
