Abstract. Modular wall greening is systematic, quickly to make scenery, easy to assembly and
other advantages. This paper discusses three typical modular green wall systems and their
structures, matrix selection, maintenance and applicability. Wishing to providing green wall
design strategies and construction design reference for architects and landscape designers.

Introduction
There are ecological benefits to install green walls. The benefits are reduction of thermal loading to
buildings, air purification, noise attenuation, ecological habitat, positive urban psychology,
reduction of heat island effect.
Modular systems are often pre-grown, providing an ‘instant’ green effect upon completion of the
installation. In the system the frameworks are mounted on the wall, then the planting panels are
installed on the frame. Modular systems consist of square or rectangular panels that hold growing
media to support plant material. The Panels can be made by plastic, stretch polystyrene, synthetic
fiber, clay, metal, concrete, or other materials. Plants pattern, species, and colors are usually
designed in a nursery according to the customers requests in advance. After several months
of cultivation, the planting panels are shipped to the site for installation on the frames.

Three Main Using Modular Green Wall System

ANS system. The ANS module system began in 2007 in Britain. After that a large number of
planting and construction are starting in Europe.
Module is all manufactured from recycled waste, with UVresistance, temperature range can
be used -40 ° C to 80 ° C. No man-made growing mediums, mineral wools or other fibres are used.
Module plants should be pre planting, and then mounted to the frame. No visual exposure of the
module is on the frontage. Installation on low position module can be at the place for planting
experience. And the life is 10 year guarantee. The 3D mounting models of ANS system are shown
in figure1.
The module will generally use the automatic watering system, can be implanted in nutrient
solution, using capillarynutritional elements can be directly to the root system. ANS irrigation
system is shown in figure 2.
G-sky system. The G-SKY module, commonly used size is 12 inch x 12 inch x 3 inch, can
also be made of other specifications(length and width of 6 inches to 18 inches). The panel can
be planted 25 trees and mounted in stainless steel or aluminum frame. Figure3 shows the mounting
systems.
