On a final examination at a particular University in Africa the following scores were eamed:

5,6,7,7,10,15,16,16,17,17,22,22,22,25,26,28,31,33,35,37,40. Use the above data to answer the

following questions:

a) Construct a frequency table for this data and relative frequency table, grouping the data using
the class width of 4. 17.51

b) Construct a cumulative frequency table and cumulative relative frequency table[7.5]


c) Construct a histogram, be sure to properly construct and label the histogram t5]

Based on past experience, the main printer in a University Computer Centre is operating properly
90% of all the time. Suppose inspections are made at l0 randomly selected times.

a) What is the probability that the main printer is operating properly for exactly 9 inspections? [5]
b) What is the probability that the main printer is operating properly for at least 3 inspections? [10]

A pencil manufacturer averages 1.2 defective pencil's per carton produced (200 pencils). The number
ofdefects per carton is Poisson distributed.

c) Suppose a purchaser of these pencils will quit buying from the company if a carton contains

Namibia Contract Haulage (NCH) determined that on an annual basis, the distance travelled per bus is
normally distributed with a mean of 50 thousand kilometres and a standard deviation of 12 thousand

kilometres. The company operates 100 buses.

a. What is the probability that that a randomly selected bus travels between 34 thousand and

b. What percentage of buses can be expected to travel above 60 thousand kilometres in the
