2D1 Creating the Drawing with Sketch Up – VERSION 1- Offest .5 . Three rings each .125 wide and .

25
deep.

1. Open a new Sketch Up Make drawing and give it a name and path.
2. Camera Tab, Standard, Front
3. Rectangle icon, pick center point, enter 6 comma 6, return
4. Zoom Extents Icon to fill the screen with the square
5. With mouse pointer at the bottom center of the object, hold down roller and move mouse to
mid screen.
6. Select the Push Pull icon, Click the surface of the square, Push the mouse forward (up) and let
loose, enter 1, return to make the object 1” thick.
7. Select the Dimension Icon and place the dimensions for 6” high, 6” wide”, and 1” thick.
8. Camera Tab, Standard, Front to show just the top.
9. Select the text tool (A) and set text height for 1/8”, enter FRONT, Place the text in the top right
hand corner.
10. Camera Tab, Standard, Back
11. Select the text tool (A) and set text height for 1/8”, enter BACK, Place the text in the bottom left
hand corner.
12. Select the Paint Bucket. In the list find the WOOD tab and I like to scroll down to the light
veneer. Select a color.
13. Select the Orbit tool and rotate and paint all 6 surfaces by clicking the planes: Front, Back, Top,
Bottom, Right, and Left.
14. Camera Tab, Standard, Front
15. Select the Tape Measure tool. Find the center point with an X from corners to corners.
16. Select the Circle tool, Click the center point, push the mouse away from center, and enter .25
radius. A ½ Dia circle will show. This is C1=.25R. Your drawing should look similar to this one:

17. Select the Circle tool, Click the intersection point at the top left part of the circle and the
diagonal tape measure dashed line (closest to the text FRONT), push the mouse away from
center, and enter .5 radius. C2=.5R

18. Select the Circle tool, Click the same intersection point at the top left part of the circle and the
diagonal tape measure dashed line (closest to the text FRONT), push the mouse away from
center, and enter 2.25 radius.
19. Rotate the image up part way. Select the Push Pull icon. Click the inside of the biggest circle, pull
the mouse down on the green line, and enter .25 .

20 Next use the select arrow and window to select each dashed line and move them down .25
to be on the same plane as the dished out section. We turned off the color so you can see what
it should look like.

21.Select the Line Icon and make a line .25” starting from the center of the 2.25 radius circle
going away from the label, FRONT.

22 Select the circle tool and make 6 concentric circles using the center of the 2.25 radius circle
as the center for all. C3=.625R, C4=1.00R, C5=1.125R, C6= 1.50R, C7=1.625R, C8=2.000R

23. Select the Eraser Tool and remove the 2 tape measure lines. Zoom in to completely remove
the first circle C1. Rolling the mouse wheel forward will zoom in to help you see your work.
Here is the cleaned up drawing.
24 Repaint all surfaces back with the original color from the Paint Bucket.
25 Select the Push Pull tool, Click inside the small ring, move the mouse down on the green line,
enter .25 & enter.
26 Select the Push Pull tool, Double click inside the middle size ring. The surface selected will
move down .25 .
27 Select the Push Pull tool, Double click inside the large size ring. The surface selected will
move down .25 .
28 Save the drawing if you have not already. Get ready to do the other side the same way.

29 Camera Tab, Standard View, Select Back. Select the Extents Icon to fill the screen with the image.
Zoom out a bit. And orbit up to make a 3 D image.

30 (Repeat #15) Select the Tape Measure tool. Find the center point with an X from corners to corners.

31 (Repeat #16) Select the Circle tool, Click the center point, push the mouse away from center, and
enter .25 radius. A ½ Dia circle will show. This is C11=.25R

32 Select the Circle tool, Click the intersection point at the BOTTOM left part of the circle and the
diagonal tape measure dashed line (closest to the text BACK), push the mouse away from center, and
enter .5 radius. C12=.5R

33 Select the Circle tool, Click the same intersection point at the bottom left part of the circle and the
diagonal tape measure dashed line (closest to the text BACK), push the mouse away from center, and
enter 2.25 radius for C13=2.25 .
34 Select the ORBIT TOOL & rotate the image up part way. Select the Push Pull icon. Click the inside of
the biggest circle, pull the mouse down on the green line, and enter .25 .

35 I like to dimension the bottom of the dish .25 from the BACK at this time and save the drawing.

36 Move the 2 diagonal lines just like before. Click on the select tool, make a window around the first
diagonal tape measure line, Select the MOVE tool, Pull the line down and enter .25 & return. Repeat for
the second line. The crosshair should be on the bottom left edge of C12. We turned off the color so you
can see what it should look like.
37 Select the Line Icon and make a line .25” starting from the center of the 2.25 radius circle going away
from the BACK label to the dashed line intersection.

38 Select the CIRCLE tool and make 6 concentric circles using the center of the 2.25 radius circle as the
center for all. C3=.625R, C4=1.00R, C5=1.125R, C6= 1.50R, C7=1.625R, C8=2.000R
39 ERASE the tape measure lines. Zoom in and completely ERASE Circle 11.

40 Select the PAINT BUCKET and apply the same color as the FRONT and other edges.

41 Use the ORBIT tool and examine the model for the dished areas and 3 grooves on the FRONT &
BACK.

42 Select the Push Pull tool, Click inside the small ring, move the mouse down on the green line,
enter .25 & enter.

43 Select the Push Pull tool, Double click inside the middle size ring. The surface selected will move
down .25 .

44 Select the Push Pull tool, Double click inside the large size ring. The surface selected will move down
.25 .
