Section E
Case study based questions are compulsory.

36. ROAD ACCIDENTS IN INDIA : An analysis by India spend showed that road accidents in India cost about 3-5%
of gross domestic product every year, and are avoidable if India could improve its roads and city planning, train
its drivers better, and enforce traffic laws properly. On the basis of a data from Road Accidents in India 2018,
the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways published a report which stated that India’s young, productive
population, aged 18-45 years, is involved in 70% of road accidents. Some of the common behaviour of humans
which results in accident are over speeding, drunken driving, distraction to drivers, red light jumping, avoiding
safety gears (like seat belt ,helmet), non-adherence to lane driving and overtaking in wrong manner. The Indian
Government recently updated the traffic rules in India with the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act 2019. The new
traffic rules came into effect from 1st September 2019. We hope that the new rules will bring some order to the
bad traffic conditions in most Indian metro cities. The stiff penalties will deter unruly drivers and riders from
breaking traffic rules and ensure safety on the road for everyone.

An insurance company randomly selected 600 drivers and studied the relationship between age and the accidents.
The data obtained was as follows

Age (years) Accidents (per year)

< 18 40
18-25 132
25-35 160
35-45 128
45-60 88
$ 60 36
Age not known 16
Based upon above data answer the following questions:
(i) What will be the probability of having the accidents in one year in the age group 18-25?
(ii) Probability of having accidents in the age group greater than or equal to 60.
(iii) Probability of having accidents in the age group less than 18.

appetizers, pastas, desserts and beverages. Pizza Hut was recently felicitated with the title of India’s 70 Most
Trusted Power Brands.
One of the Pizza Hut outlets is located at Point A in a city. The grid plan of the city is given below. The outlet
requires 13min to prepare a pizza. To compete with other Pizza Companies Pizza Hut promises to deliver Pizza
in 30 min. Average speed of delivery boy to deliver pizza is 45 km/hr.

Map showing route options for PIZZA DELIVERY

(ii) Find the distance to be covered by delivery boy from A to C?
(iii) Pizza Hut outlet received another order from location B at 1:34pm. Delivery Boy has to deliver order. By
what time Delivery boy will reach at location B.
 O
(iv) Find the total distance traveled by delivery boy to reach back its outlet after delivering pizzas at location
B and C?

38. TOP ARMS & AMMUNITION IMPORTERS : According to recent numbers by the Stockholm International
Peace Research Institute, Australia was the world’s fourth biggest arms importer in the last decade behind all-
time front runners India, Saudi-Arabia and China. Australia has been stepping up its defence purchases recently.
In a comparison of post-war arms importers (since 1950), Australia is in rank 15. Looking at the last 25 years,
the country makes rank 10. Security fears related to volatility in Asia were part of the reason why Australia and
many countries in the region increased spending on major weapons. Australia is also looking into exporting more
of its own weapon systems as part of a government initiative. According to the data, the country was the 20th
largest weapons exporter since 2010. The graph given below compares the top eight Arms importers of the World
The developed countries mentioned in the graph given below are: Saudi Arabia, Australia, UAE and South Korea
while remaining four are developing countries.
