APLINK MRX SERIES User’s Manual
APLINK MRX SERIES is the ultimate generation of High Resolution Inkjet Printers, designed to solve
printing needs on cases and any porous surfaces.
Developed and manufactured to print any text, images, logos, symbols, and any type of 100% readable
barcodes in compliance with GS1 International Standard Regulations (GS1-128, ITF14, GS1DATAMATRIX,
EAN-UCC13).
Powered by 4th generation piezoelectric technology print head APLINK MRX Series Printers allows users
to print messages from 35 mm up to 72 mm in height, you to print with a vertical resolution of 180 dpi
and a horizontal resolution from 180 to 720 dpi. Print speed can be up to 60 meters/minute printing
barcodes and can be up to 90 meters/minute printing text or graphics.
APLINK MRX Series Printers modular design allows using 1 to 4 print heads simultaneously through one
full color 8” touch screen controller.
Its intuitive graphic interface permits users to control and configure each print head parameters.
Production process interruptions are avoided by the changing of the 100% Mineral oil free non-
pressurized ink bottle at a nonstop mode. The ink is made by United Barcode Systems.
Reduced ink consumption and maintained reliable printing quality are assured by its innovated
technologies of temperature and drop size control.
These combined benefits make of the APLINK MRX Series Printers valuable equipment for the
generation of savings and production cost reduction. Easy to integrate and connect to any IT systems in
any production line, different ERP, and DBMS.
In standalone mode USB, WIFI and Ethernet connections allow loading of messages to print.

The interface with the user is done via two devices; one is a display of 2 digits located in each
print head, which indicates by code the status of the printer. The other device is an 8” LCD touch screen
display.
Each print head is connected to the controller using a 3 meters umbilical. The cable has one
USB male connector and one connector 5-pins male connector on each edge. The connector with 5-pins
is for the power cord (5v-12v-24v) and the USB connector is for the data. Those connectors are located
in the rear side of the controller and in the bottom plate of the print head main unit.

50
APLINK MRX SERIES User’s Manual
The APLINK MR X Series can only work with the suitable Ink that United Barcode Systems
supplies in 500ml / 1000 ml bottles. To load the Ink into the circuit, you need to take off the top of the
bottle, remove the safety seal, insert the bottle and tighten the bottle into the ink bottle thread.
When the bottle have inserted into the ink bottle thread, press the button of reset to charge the ink at
the tank.
Repeat this procedure until the LED indicator turns green and the display will indicate the command Co.
When these parameters are visible at the printer, the printer will be full of ink and ready to print.
Keep in mind not to over tighten the Ink bottle to avoid equipment malfunction
For a correctly functioning of the printer only use ink of United Barcode Systems
51
APLINK MRX SERIES User’s Manual
Once you have the ink bottle in place and the alignment is done, you need to carry out a purge
with the objective of supplying the hydraulic circuit with ink. To realize the process of purge, you need
extract the safety plate that is mounted in the print head (1). Place the wipe/tissue in the lower part of
the print head (2). Press the black button “purge” (3). Collect the ink that comes out of the print head
with the wipe (4-5). Finally, place the security plate in your first position. (6)

It is possible that may still are air bubbles that will be expelled during the following 6-8 hours. These bubbles
cause a line-out in the message.
Before starting the purge process, inhibit photocell or deactivate the print process through the touch screen display

CALIBRATION PHOTOCELL
For a good case detection step must be performed calibration of the photocell. It’s an important step in
the installation of the printer in the production line.
53
APLINK MRX SERIES User’s Manual
To verify that everything is working properly, you have to make a test print.
You just have to hit the play button play the screen and the printer will print the message. The color of
display changes (orange to black) when you hit the play button.

• You must take a porous cardboard and pass in front the print head.
• You must first detect the photocell and then pass front the print head
• Print direction change the position of the photocell in the print head

DAILY MAINTENANCE
PRINTHEAD CLEANING
The print head is one of the most important components of the printer. To attain an optimal
productivity and a long life for your APLINK MR X Series unit, it is recommended to regularly inspect the
printer and its operating environment to ensure the printer is operated correctly.
-You should clean the print head every day, or when the print quality decreases.
-Short/Long term stop: no specific manoeuvres.
Follow these instructions to guarantee a good print quality and ensure a long life of the print head:
All clean up action must be performed with special cloth and should use latex gloves.
To perform the print head cleaning, it must be cleaned up with UBS tissues to avoid
any damage on the print head.
Print head cleaning actions must be performed according the environmental
conditions.
76
APLINK MRX SERIES User’s Manual
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
The hydraulic circuit where the printing ink circulates has 3 filters that guarantee the elimination of
possible impurities that the ink may contain and that could cause blockage to the print head.
The ink tank contains the filter of 40 microns (number 9 in the draw) and the ink bottle thread contains
the filters of 100 microns (pre-filter - number 8 in the draw-) and 10 microns (filter – number 4 in the
draw).
It is advisable to change the filters every 6 or 12 months. Changing the filters will guarantee a long life
of the print head and a good print quality.
INK TANK
This procedure must be done by Certified Technicians by United Barcode Systems, or any
United Barcode Systems authorized and certified service center.
77
