06/20/2023; CCPO 1: Integrate I attended my first clinical experience with Lauren Trapp, NP at Beebe Healthcare. 8
0730-1530 general and nursing Lauren Trapp began the day by explaining her role as a Nurse Practitioner in general
education surgery. Basically, it is Lauren’s job to assist the doctors in rounding on all the
knowledge, skills, patients in the hospital, place orders, clean up patients’ charts, write progress notes
and aptitudes on patients, and truly be there for the doctors and nurses on the floor to make sure
acquired in the RN the needs of their patients are met. It is Lauren’s job to educate patients to a
to BSN program. successful recovery and safe discharge. It is crucial for Lauren to listen and to
understand the patients’ needs and advocate for them. Lauren is like the doctor’s
shadow to make sure they don’t miss anything for our patients and can assist with
orders that are needed to care for the patient. Once a patient is close to discharge,
Lauren makes sure these patients have everything they need for a safe discharge.
Lauren will place home health orders which can consist of physical and
occupational therapy, nursing care, and/or wound care. Lauren makes sure the
patient is discharged with all medications necessary for recovery whether it is
antibiotics, pain or nausea medications. Lauren also schedules follow-up
appointments for these patients. Lauren truly demonstrates a well-rounded
healthcare provider in all aspects of knowledge and skills as the care that is provided
is the best quality and she does not stop caring for the patient until they are
discharged from the hospital and even then, these patients are followed up
outpatient. Lauren makes sure they have all the needs necessary to care for
themselves and have a successful recovery.

06/21/2023; CCPO 2: Analyze I had the opportunity to experience the OR today. I saw umbilical hernia repair and 8
0730-1530 healthcare issues colostomy reversal. Both procedures were very interesting. Lauren Trapp stayed
impacting beside me and educated me the entire time. After the procedures in the morning, we
healthcare systems began rounds again throughout the hospital checking on all the general surgery
and professional patients/consults. When speaking with patients Lauren always talks through a series
nursing practice. of questions to try to see why the patient could be experiencing what they are going
through. After Lauren gathers her information then she starts concluding what could
be happening to the patient regarding the patients’ symptoms and impressions of
diagnostic testing and lab results. Lauren then begins educating on how the
diagnosis could potentially have been prevented through things that the patient
could have changed such as diet, exercise, using certain medications, and simply
getting a yearly physical. Lauren also provides handouts to patients to help explain
what disease process a patient is experiencing which also includes preventative
measures and ways to cope/treat the diagnosis. Integrating preventative care and
disease management into health promotion and disease prevention is very important
so a patient can stay out of the hospital and keep themselves healthy. One of the
biggest healthcare issues is that patients do not get yearly physicals and do not stay
on top of their health which then puts the professional nursing practice in a bind
when trying to care for many problems at one time or having to present terrible
diagnosis such as cancer. Education is huge to help prevent more major healthcare
issues.
06/26/2023; CCPO 3: Apply Lauren Trapp is an NP in their general surgery department that specializes in acute 6
0730-1330 leadership and adult geriatrics which is also eye opening as I am a medical-surgical nurse and I
principles to take care of the older adult population every day. As a nurse on the floor I have had
communicate, amazing collaboration experiences with Lauren in regards to general surgery
collaborate, and patients. Lauren is always quick to answer and wants the best for the patient. Lauren
delegate within Trapp, NP has amazing bedside manners and collaborates well with the patient and
interprofessional the general surgery team to figure out what is best for the patients. It was fascinating
teams. to watch the different surgeries and follow the patients after at the bedside
especially since that’s when I see them is post operative. Lauren Trapp often
collaborates with the hospitalist regarding patient care. Lauren also must reach out
to other specialties at times, specifically gastroenterology and infectious disease. It
is crucial that Lauren appropriately communicates with the hospitalist and other
specialist to ensure everyone is on the same page/plan for the patient to get the best
recovery. Lauren also reaches out to case management to assist in the best discharge
plan for each of her patients. Lauren collaborates with the outpatient offices to
ensure that patients have appointments set up for their follow-ups. Lauren truly
wants the best for all her patients and will go above and beyond to meet their needs
even with collaborating with other professionals and resources.
06/29/2023; CCPO 4: My fourth clinical experience with Lauren Trapp was a full day of rounding, 8
0730-1530 Demonstrate discharging patients, and even time in the operating room. I was super excited to go
professional and into the OR. I was able to see a laparoscopic (LAP) cholecystectomy and a sigmoid
ethical behaviors as resection due to a small bowel obstruction (SBO). The LAP cholecystectomy was
a member of the super interesting as so many gallstones were noted, and the gallbladder had started
healthcare team. to change to a dark brown color which Lauren stated would have basically become
necrotic. When talking amongst other healthcare professionals, Lauren and the other
doctors use the patients initials and room number to maintain confidentiality and
protect HIPPA/patients’ rights. When Lauren is speaking to a patient, she always
approaches them in a professional manner and stays that way the entire length of the
conversation. Lauren ensures that professional and ethical behaviors are
demonstrated by following the established standards and guidelines of Beebe
Healthcare and the General Surgery cohort, respecting patients privacy and dignity,
and providing quality care.
07/06/2023; PGC 5: Advocate As I followed Lauren Trapp this day there were many discharges from the general 8
0730-1530 for patients and the surgery aspect. Lauren had to round on these patients, write a progress note, and put
nursing profession in discharge orders. Lauren told me she always does the discharges very carefully to
with regard to make sure all the needs of the patient are met. Some of the major health resources
healthcare policy at that are utilized are home health. Home health includes physical and occupational
the local, state, therapies, nursing care, and wound care. It is important to make sure these needs are
national, and global met so patients can get to their optimal functioning standpoint. Lauren can also
levels. reach out to case management if there are bigger needs to be met such as meals on
wheels or transportation. Other resources that Lauren orders for all her patients are
simple follow-up visits. One visit with the general surgery doctor and one visit with
their primary care physician. These appointments are crucial to make sure patients
are doing well whether it is post-operative or just follow-up from a hospital
admission. Lauren also ensures that all the appropriate medications, labs, and testing
are ordered, and she even speaks to case management to make sure patients can
financially get the things they need as an outpatient. Lauren educates well to all her
patient to explain what is expected at discharge. Lauren truly advocates for her
patients to make sure all their needs are met and to make sure they are at their best
prior to discharge. Lauren ensures a safe discharge plan and I was able to witness
many of them today.

growth. information to help me be successful in the next step of my education and told me
all about her studies at Walden University where she obtained her Master of Science
in Nursing. In my last clinical with Lauren, I was able to view a 30-minute seminar
on new instruments they are bringing into the OR for general surgeons to use. It is
fascinating what technology can do! We also did our typical rounding and charting.
I will defiantly use Lauren’s advice, knowledge, and skills in my future as a nurse
and while continuing my education.
