2.4 Configuration of control panel PAN 9
The pushbuttons under the front panel can be used to set parameters, node number, baud rate and
PAN type. These settings appear on the display provided here.
The relevant parameters can be selected and saved using the Mode key. Pressing the Mode key
switches between the following functions:
1. Press: Display or set PAN type - Signal lamp ML 3 lights up.
2. Press: Display or set node number - Signal lamp ML 4 lights up.
3. Press: Display or set baud rate - Signal lamp ML 5 lights up.
4. Press: Exit menu and save settings.
Signal lamps ML 1 and ML 2 flash when the parameter has been selected. The parameter value can be
increased or decreased by pressing the “Up” or “Down” keys. The settings are saved on exiting the
menu.

PAN type
TIM-ID: 0000037517 - 001

The PAN type sets the CAN bus communication parameters.

The PAN type can be checked and set using the Parameter menu. The front panel of PAN 9 must be
removed in order to view or set the PAN type. ML 3 lights up, and ML 1 and ML 2 flash after selecting
“PAN type” display mode by pressing the Mode key . The present PAN type is indicated on the display.
PAN types 1 to 6 are available for selection.

Node number
The node number identifies the device as a CAN bus station.
PAN 9 is factory-set to node number “0” on delivery. The PAN 9 node number is allocated automatically
by the system when node number “0” has been set.
E532406/01E 2013-04 | Functional Description | 15
The set node number is written into the non-volatile memory of PAN 9. PAN 9PAN 9starts with this stor-
ed node number on rebooting.
The node number can be checked in the Parameter menu on the display and set by entering hexadeci-
mal code using the keys under the front panel. The front panel of PAN 9 must be removed in order to
view or set the node number. ML 4 lights up, and ML 1 and ML 2 flash after selecting “Node number”
display mode by pressing the Mode key . The active node number is indicated on the display in hexa-
decimal code.
The PAN node number is allocated automatically when the node number is set to “0”. The node number
appears on the display in place of the “0” as soon as this process has been completed.
Once installed, the set node number can be read off at the signal lamps (flashing/steady) when the
operating voltage has been switched on and the “Display node number” message has been transmitted
via the CAN bus.
The node number can be determined by adding the hundreds, tens and ones indicated by the flashing
sequence. The sum total reflects the node number.
ML Node number = 0 Node number > 0
ML 1 Flashing white Indicates hundreds by flashing
ML 2 Flashing white Indicates tens by flashing
ML 3 Flashing white Indicates ones by flashing
ML 4 Dark Dark
ML 5 Dark Dark
ML 6 Dark Dark

Baud rate
The CAN bus data transmission rate is selected with the baud rate parameter. PAN 9 is factory-set to a
baud rate of 250 kBd on delivery.
The baud rate can be checked and set using the Parameter menu. The front panel of PAN 9 must be
removed in order to view or set the baud rate. ML 5 lights up, and ML 1 and ML 2 flash after selecting
“Baud rate” display mode by pressing the Mode key . The baud rate is indicated as a number on the
display:
• 1: 125 kBd
• 2: 250 kBd

Dimming
The PAN 9 dimming signal is transmitted as a message via the CAN bus.
The following items can be dimmed independently on PAN 9:
TIM-ID: 0000037517 - 001

• Background illumination brightness

• Spot-LEDs with operating lamp

Labeling kit
The inscriptions on PAN 9 are realized with replaceable labeling kits, each with three fields.
