Gestalt theory- refers to a community of practice that investigates the role of human mind in relation to

perception and interpretation. Sinasabi dito na ang utak daw natin ay naka depende sa tao, at tayo raw
ay may iba’t ibang perspective. This theory investigate the role of mind in perception, how we see
things, how we interpret things.

Some of the principles of gestalt theory are the Law or Proximity and Law of continuity.

Law of Proximity

 The law of proximity suggest that object near each other tend to be viewed as a group. If you
see a number of people standing close together, you might immediately assume that they are all
part of a social group.
 This law explains how we see or perceive things that are placed together as a group. Kapag daw
ang mga bagay o tao ay mag kakalapit or mag kakasama, our eyes perceives them as a group.

Example:

 An example is, in a restaurant, the host might assume na ang mga taong naka tayo at nag
hihintay para maka upo ay mag kakasama dahil sila ay mag kakadikit or malapit sa isa’t isa but in
reality, they may only near each other because the waiting place is small at hindi talaga sila
belong sa iisang group.
 Another example is kapag naka kita tayo ng mga estudyanteng naka suot ng green CELA shirt sa
hallway, our eyes and mind will perceive them as a group. Na sila ay mag kakasama at mag ka-
kaklase.

Law of Continuation

 The law of continuation posits that the human eye will follow the smoothest path when viewing
lines, regardless of how the lines were actually drawn.
 The eye compelled to move from one object through another. The eye tends to want follow the
straight line from one end of this figure to the other, and the curved line from the top to the
bottom, even when the lines change color midway.

Example

 For example is a cross, we perceive it as a vertical and horizontal lines that meet together rather
than angles meeting at their vertices.
 Another example ay ang pag tratrace ng mga bata. They will follow the line in simplest path on
the page.

Classroom application

 Teachers should encourage their students to discover the relationship of the element that make
up a problem.
 Incongruities, gaps, or disturbances are essential stimuli in the learning process.
