India has a rich heritage that is thousands of years old. The word ‘heritage‘ means something
special about our family, our place of birth, or our country, that is passed onto us from our
ancestors. Our customs, the traditional food that we eat, the traditional clothes we wear,
the festivals we celebrate, our beliefs, our music, the language we speak, our art, are all part
of our heritage.
It is important to know about our heritage. It gives us an identity – it tells us who we
are, and where we come from. It also gives us a sense of belonging and develops within us,
respect for our country, and for its rich natural and cultural past.
People from different parts of our world came and settled in India over thousands of
years. Each of them has added something to India’s rich heritage. We should be proud of our
heritage, and respect its rich variety.
