The copy must be complete, legible and readily available for use. If this book should be lost, or become unusable, a replacement copy must be obtained from Southerly Designs as soon as possible. Loading Conditions Information “The loading concitions shown in this book are typical for the intended service of the vessel ‘The intact and damage cases shown are an incomplete extract of afl possible conditions. itis emphasised that a separate calculation is necessary if any loading condition differs materially from those shown. Compliance with the stability criteria does not ensure immunity against apsizing, rogardiess of the circumstances, nor absolve the master from his or her responsibilty for the safoty of the vessel, crew and passengers. The master must exercise and use good seamanship, having regard to the weather and navigational zone. Aspects of Loading ‘The following matiers must also be taken info account when making up loading conditions: Passenger Particulars For the purpose of loading condition calculations the following passenger particulars are to be used: ‘+ The distribution of passengers is 4 persons per square motre. The standard mass of a passenger shall be taken as 75 kg. The vertical centre of gravity of a standing passenger shall be taken as 1,0 metres above the deck, ‘+ The vertical centre of gravity of a seated passenger shall be 0.30 metres above the seat. Tank Usage and Free Surface Effects Atall times, tanks which are not in use, must, where practicable, be either completely empty or fully pressed up, to minimise the effects of free surface. It should be noted that any tank carrying fuel cl isto bo considered as slack. The free surlace correction for any tank must be that corresponding to the maximum free surface moment ofthe tank, Ballast Tanks ‘When, to maintain adequate stabilly during a voyage, it becomes necessary to fil or pump ballast tanks, care must be taken during the filing or pumping operation the ship maintains adequate stablity to withstand the free surface effects of the partially filled (or stack) ballast tanks. Free surface moments tn making up loading conditions, it js to be noted that the free surface moments must be alfowed for the maximum number of tanks which might be slack or could shortly become slack in that loading condition. This will mean that, for the departure conditions, both fuel oll tanks, the fuel oll daily service tank and at least one main fresh water tank are to be considered to bo slack. ie 3 c cam ca © = oo a Hydrostatic and KN Values « Hydrostatic and KN values contained in this book have been calculated for this vessel at its design laval tim, but if the vessel departs from the trim as calculated, the values of the hydrostatic elements wil vary from those al level trim and so overestimate the stability. When ‘operating the vessel, itis essential to keep the vessel close to her design level tim. Deck Cargo ‘When deck cargo is to be Joatled, verified masses and realistic values of the of the vertical centres of gravity ofthe items must be used in the loading condition calculations. Water can be entrapped in the deck cargo and in the case of certain cargoes(eg timber) water can be absorbed by Timber Deck Cargo. When the ship is carying deck cargoes of timber, water can be absorbed by the cargo. An allowance is to be made for this absorbed water because: ‘a, The mass of the water absorbed depends on the type of timber and it initial dryness, An Initially dry softwood cargo could absorb up to 20% of its mass of water, b. Under certain heavy weather conditions, the timber on the weather side could absorty more water and give the ship a list. Containers All containers Included in the cargo are to be weighed prior to loading. Containers and other items of cargo which have verified masses are to be included at these masses, Watertight Integrity and Angle Of Downflooding In calculating the KN values of this vessel It was assumed that the vessel is watertight up to the main deck. All hatches on these decks are to be kept closed while ever the vassal is operating. For the purposes of this stability report, the angle at which progressive flooding of spaces below these decks can first occur i at the engine room air vent aft. The position of this a inlet is: £28.00 to 31.00m AMt of Bow 8.24 m either side of the CL. 3,81 m above the baseline. Reduction Of Stability Due To A Steady Angle Of Heel A steady angle of heel (alist), however caused, reduces the stabilty of the vessel fo below that calculated for that loading condition. ‘Thus itis essential to stzive to keep the vessel upright at alltimes. Excess Trimming By Head Conditions of loading can give rise to excessive trim by the head, which can lead to difficulties in handling and poor seakeeping. It must be remembered that the calculations for the assignment of freeboard take account of a minimum bow height and hence a maximum draft forward. Ifthe proposed loading to be adopted leads to a draft forward in excess of this maximum, the condition is not acceptable and the loading to be adopted must be varied to reckice this draft to ‘the maximum draft forward. 7 2m c n u c a Stability Criteria r «This vessel has had her stability compared with the criteria set out in Chapter 5 Buoyancy Stabilty and Subdivision of the IMO HSC code. ‘The stability will be considered satisfactory ifthe following oriteria are met in all loading conditions: General Intact Stability Criteria ‘+ The area under the righting fever curve (GZ curve) should not be less than 0.07 m.rad up to 0=15° when the maximum righting laver (GZ) occurs at 15° and 0,055m.rad up to 6=30" __ when the maximum righting lever occurs at €=30° or above, Where the maxknum righting lever occurs at angles of between @=15° and 6=30° the corresponding area under the righting lever curve shouid be: ‘A= 0.055 + 0,001(80"- naa) mrad where : Gnas is the angle of heel in degrees at which the righting lever curve reaches its maximum '* The area under the righting lever curve between @=30° and 8=40° or betwean @=30" and. the angle of down flooding @, if this angle is lass than 40°, should not be fess than 0.03 mrad. ‘+ The righting lever (G2) shall have a value not less than 0.2 metres at an angle of hael equal to oF greatar than 30°. +The maximum righting lever should ocour at an angle of heel nat less than 15°, ‘The intial metacentric helght (GM,) shall not be fess than 0.15 metres. ‘The vessel should have sufficient intact stabiity, when in stil water conditions, the inclination of the craft from the horizontal would not exceed 10°under all permitted cases of loading and uncontrolled passenger movernents as may occur. Resolution A.562 - Severe Wind and Rolling Criterion (Weather Criterion) Assumptions ‘The ability of the vessel to withstand the combined effects of beam wind and rolling is to be demonstrated for each standard condition of loading, with reference to Figure 1 as follows: ‘+ The ship is subjected to a steady wind pressure acting perpendicular to the ship's centreline which results in a steady wind heeling lever (li); ‘+ From the resuitant angle of equilibrium (@), the ship Is assumed to roll owing to wave action to an angle of roll (8) to windward; ‘¢ The ship is then subjected to a gust wind pressure which results in a gust wind heeling lever ads + Free surface effects are to be accounted fct.i the standard conditions of loading. mom = Ey lal c. on oo C L NN SEN NG SOY], idodce| yr (st gue 4 Criteria +The area “b’ is to be greater than the area “a”, where: a: Area above tha GZ curve and below the le, between @, and the the GZ curve. fersection of beg with b: Area above the heeling lye and below the GZ curve, between the intersection of he with the GZ curve and ®, ‘+ The anglo of heal under the action of steady wind (@,) is to be limited to 16° or 80% of the angle of deck edge immersiori, which ever is less. However, where this is clearly impractical angles of inclination up to 15° immediately after damage but reducing to 10° within 18 minutes may be permitted provided that efficient non-slip deck surfaces and suitable holding points, ¢.g. holes, bars, ‘tc, are provided. + Theres is a positive freeboard from the damage waterine to survival craft embarkation positions, + Any looding of passenger compartments or escape routes which might occur will not significantly impede the evacuation of passengers ‘+ Essential emergency equipment, emergency radios, power supplies and public address systems neaded for organising the evacuation remain accessible and operational. + The residual stability complies with: ‘At the final condition after damage, and after equalisation, such as cross flooding, where provided, the following oriteria are complied with: 1. The positive residual righting lever curve shall have a minimum range of 15° beyond the angle of equilibrium, 2, This range may be reduced to a minimum of 10°, in the case where the area. under the righting lever curva is that specified in 3, increased by the ratio: 18 / range ‘where the range is expressed in degrees 3, The area under the righting lever curve shall be at least 0.015m.rad, measured from the angle of equilibrium to the lesser of : +The angle at which downloading occurs + 22° (measured from the upright) in the case of one compartment flooding, or 27° (measured from the uprighi) in the case of the simultaneous flooding of wo or more adjacent compartments, 4. A residual righting lever is to be obtained within the range specified above, taking into account the greatest of the following’heeling moments: c « + The launching of all fully loaded davit launched survival craft on one side q 1 © Due to wind pressure: 7 As calculated by the formula: c Heeling over» emont placement +0948 I However in no case is the righting lever to be less than 0.10m.
