Hep G2 Cells

Unfortunately, since this emodule was prepared, the Huh7 model cell line that we had
intended to use has proven to be unreliable in culture, so we have swapped to a similar line,
HepG2.

HepG2 is also derived from a well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma, in this case from
a 15-year-old Argentinian boy. Similar to Huh7, it also has an epithelial-like morphology.

Hep G2 cells are a commonly used model system for liver metabolism and xenobiotic
toxicity studies, and for research into dietary cytotoxic and genotoxic agents. This makes
them a good choice for our research this year.

You can find out more about this cell line from the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC)
website here.

A datasheet from the European Collection of Authenticated Cell Cultures (ECACC) for this
cell line is included as a separate PDF file.
