2. COMPLEMENTARY REFERENCES
2.1 SASO 483:1991 “ Methods of Testing Facial Tissue – Paper”.
2.2 SASO ISO 186:2014 “Paper and Board – Sampling to determine
average quality”.
3. DEFINITIONS
3.1 Recycled fibers: Fibers obtained from pulps manufactured from paper which has
already been used before, and which has undergone treatment for the removal of
inks, fillers, or other additives.
3.2 Tissue paper: A two or more plies of soft tissue made by a suitable way and
packed under hygienic conditions.
3.3 Web: The continuous length of paper during manufacture or
conversion.
3.4 Grammage: The mass of a unit area of paper, expressed in g/m2.
3.5 Machine Direction (MD): A length direction corresponding to the
direction of travel of the web on the paper machine.
3.6 Cross Direction (CD): The direction at right angle to the machine
direction.
3.7 Tensile Strength: The maximum tensile force that a test piece will
stand till the moment it breaks .
4. REQUIREMENT
Facial tissue shall comply with the following requirement :
4.1 They shall be made from pulps obtained from cellulosic raw materials (basically
wood) or recycled fibers (3.1)
4.2 It shall be hygienic, free from harmful material and of a uniform
colour.
4.3 It shall be free from foreign materials, stains holes, tears, undesired
folds, lumps and any other visible defects.
4.4 It shall not give any bad smell when dry or wet.

4.5 It shall have uniform edges and shall not leave fibres when used.
4.6 If perfumed, it shall be free form any harmful material.
4.7 Its minimum grammage shall be 13 g/m2 for one ply at a moisture
content of 5-8% .
4.8 The dry CD tensile strength of two-ply facial tissue paper shall not be
less than 0.45 N/cm.
4.9 The wet CD tensile strength of two-ply facial tissue paper shall not be
less than 0.07 N/cm.
4.10 The dry MD tensile strength of two-ply facial tissue paper shall not be
less than 1.2 N/cm.
4.11 The pH value shall be between 6 and 8.
4.12 The absorption time of 0.01 ml of water for one ply shall not be more
than 10 seconds.
5. SAMPLING
Sampling and conditioning of samples for test shall be carried out according to
Saudi Standard mentioned in 2.2.
7. PACKING
The following shall be observed in packaging facial tissue paper:
7.1 The facial tissue paper shall be folded and assembled in suitable boxes made of
thin board, in such a way, to pull one tissue at a time without disturbing the
underlying tissues.

7.2 Only the sheets of the same size shall be packed together in a box or
plastic package .
7.3 The box and plastic package shall have a good perforated portion at
the center of its upper side which could easily to remove or open the
packaging with a plastic bar on the slot cartoon pox .
7.4 The tolerance in tissue paper number inside the box or plastic
package shall be ± 3 tissues and the tolerance in the tissue paper
number inside the package of Pocket handkerchiefs shall be zero.
7.5 The length of the cartoon box shall no more than 3 cm of the length of
the paper tissue described in item 8/1/5.
7.6 The boxes and plastic package shall be packed in suitable large boxes
or plastic sacks made of materials that would ensure its safe arrival at
destination in good condition without damage.
7.7 Only the boxes or plastic package containing the same number of
tissues shall be packed together in a large box or plastic sacks.
8. MARKING
Each box or plastic package or large box or plastic sack shall be legible and
indelibly marked with the following information in Arabic or in both Arabic and
English until has been consumed:
8.1 The box or plastic package
8.1.1 Name of product.
8.1.2 Name and/or trade mark of the manufacturer.
8.1.3 Country of origin.
8.1.4 Number of tissues per box or plastic package clearly marked bold and
colour (or symbol to indicate the colour of tissues). In case of boxes
containing two colours, just write the word “Two Colours”.
8.1.5 Size of tissue paper ( length and width ) in millimeters .
8.1.6 Number of plies per tissue paper.
8.1.7 Whether tissues are perfumed or not.
8.2 The large box or plastic sack
8.2.1 The information's provided in 8.1.
8.2.2 Number of boxes and packages in large box and plastic sack.
