Exercise 6: Motivation
“What’s my motivation?” you hear the stereotypical actor cry, trying in frustra-
tion to vivify a stage or film character. Indeed, a key to understanding human
beings is figuring out why people do what they do, think what they think and
say what they say. Discerning motivation from figures in the Bible requires
some knowledge of the historical and social context of the story in which they
appear, but mostly our own insights into human behavior.
