Project Bilingual
Project Bilingual is a continuing effort making available great original works
in translation optimized for ereaders. Traditional bilingual books typically
reserve one page for the original text while displaying the translation on the
facing page. Ereaders require smaller units of translation and original text to be
compared for gadget size limitations. This necessitates a breakdown at the level
of paragraph, which is the method adopted by the Project Bilingual. Relatively
long paragraphs were split into smaller units for practical considerations.
Project Bilingual came to life from a strong conviction that bilingual texts:
1) are ideal for quick and painless grammar and vocabulary checks;
2) are the most effective and enjoyable method to quickly improve foreign
language reading comprehension;
3) accelerate the joy of being able to read great works in their original
language.
Project Bilingual is much more than just printing bilingual texts and you can
help. Please visit http://www.wolfpupbooks.com to see other ways you can be
involved in the Project.
We strive to make every text as error free as possible. However, many things
from mistaken translations to formatting errors may contribute to errors. We
would appreciate if you can send us a feedback through our website
(http://www.wolfpupbooks.com) about any mistake that you spot in the
following text. Or you can simply send us an email at the address below. If you
are communicating regarding a specific title, we would appreciate if you could
provide the title of the book (or ASIN can be provided instead) in the subject
line.

About the Author
René Descartes (31 March 1596 – 11 February 1650) was a French
philosopher, mathematician, and writer. He has been called the "Father of
Modern Philosophy", and much subsequent Western philosophy is a response to
his writings, which are studied closely to this day. In particular, his Meditations
on First Philosophy continues to be a standard text at most university philosophy
departments. Mind-body problem, consciousness and conscious thought as the
center of being, dualism are a few keywords that point to centuries old traditions
that have been informed by Descartes’ writings.
He is perhaps best known for the philosophical statement cogito ergo sum (Je
pense, donc je suis - I think, therefore I am), found in part IV of Discourse on the
Method (1637, written in French but with inclusion of Cogito ergo sum) and §7
of part I of Principles of Philosophy (1644, in Latin).
René Descartes died in 1650 at the age of 53 in Stockholm, Sweden, where he
had been invited as a tutor for Queen Christina of Sweden.
About the Title
The Discourse on the Method is one of the most influential works in the
history of modern philosophy, and important to the evolution of natural sciences.
It is also essential for an understanding of Descartes's conception of his own
project.
In this work, Descartes starts his line of reasoning by methodical doubt,
whereby he envisages the possibility of doubting even things that we considered
very solid knowledge and challenges the origin of this knowledge. The ultimate
goal is to arrive at truth that would not be bothered by preconceived notions.
The book was originally published in Leiden, Netherlands. Later, it was
translated into Latin and published in 1656 in Amsterdam. The book was
intended as an introduction to three works Dioptrique, Météores and Géométrie.
La Géométrie contains Descartes' first introduction of the Cartesian coordinate
system.
Together with Meditations on First Philosophy (Meditationes de Prima
Philosophia), Principles of Philosophy (Principia philosophiae) and Rules for
the Direction of the Mind (Regulae ad directionem ingenii), it forms the base of
the Epistemology known as Cartesianism
