Course Description
This course is designed to prepare students to pursue careers in the field of Dentistry. Upon
completion of this course, a student proficient in Dental Science Education will be able to
identify careers in these field, compare and contrast the features of healthcare systems, explain
the legal and ethical ramifications of the Dental setting and begin to perform foundational Dental
skills. This course will serve as a strong foundation for all postsecondary dental science
programs of study. Students will also qualify to take the National Entry Level Dental Assistant
exam before they graduate from high school.

6.1 - the dental care and prevention customs and cultural beliefs of various
populations.
7.1 - average cost of private dental insurance plans versus government-issued plans.
8.1 - gross and cellular structure and function of head and neck anatomy, including
bones, muscles, sinuses, salivary glands, nerves, and blood vessels.
10.1 - written and digital health education project to inform an audience about the
parts and functions of teeth.
11.1 - Determine the meaning of the universal dental numbering systems name
13.1 - Define the terms pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms, and explain
how each can cause a disease or disorder.
15.1 - Differentiate among toxic, corrosive, ignitable, and reactive hazardous wastes in
dental facilities.
17.1 - Identify basic dental office instrumentation and explain the purpose of each
item.
20.1 - Complete training in American Heart Association or American Red Cross adult
and child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
23.1 - Research emerging dental technologies related to dental and oral health
24.1 - Research a dental specialty procedure (such as oral surgery, prosthetic dentistry,
or gingivoplasty)
Attendance Policy
In Case You Are Late or Absent: It is your responsibility to get the course notes, handouts, and project
assignments should you miss class or be late.
Additional Assistance
My standard office hours are from 7:30 a.m. until the start of school and until 3:45 p.m. each day as well
as during ICU. Other arrangements for assistance can be made by appointment as needed. I can be located
before school and during ICU in room 425.
