August MOON PHASES August Highlights

Supermoons
The month of August will be excellent for Moongazing as there
will be two “Supermoons” (Aug. 1 and Aug. 30). Supermoons
FULL LAST NEW FIRST occur when the full Moon coincides with the Moon being at its
8/1 8/8 8/15 8/23 closest position to Earth. As a result, the Moon appears larger
8/30 than normal.
Perseids Meteor Shower
The Perseids meteor shower will be active from late July
through August, with a peak of activity occurring the evening
of Aug. 12. At its peak, we can expect 60-150 shooting stars per
hour.
