of the following
characters;
Crisostomo Ibarra
 Juan Crisóstomo Ibarra y Magsalin, commonly called Ibarra, is a
descendant of the wealthy Spaniard Don Rafael Ibarra, a man larger than
life in the town of San Diego but who gets in trouble because he questions
the Churchs practices. His grandfather, Don Saturnino Ibarra, was also a
very wealthy man and was one to purchase the Ibarra estate in San Diego.
Going back to Crisostomo, he was born and grew up in the Philippines, but
during his adolescence, spent seven years studying in Europe. The strength
of Don Crisostomo Ibarra seems to dwell on his social status, lineage from
prestige ancestors, wealth, education and connections with powerful
persons from the Gobernadorcillos to the Captain-General of Las Islas
Filipinas. Moreover, he is physically healthy and fit, with Spanish-looking
features but Filipino-colored skin. Carries himself with an air of prestige and
confidence, but he is humble, respectful, and well-educated.
Sandro Marcos is the Crisostomo Ibarra of today for the following reasons: Firstly, while
Crisostomos father, Don Rafael Ibarra, strongly questioned the Churchs practices in his time,
today, Sandros father, BongBong Marcos strongly questions the previous vice-presidential
elections and strongly demanded for a recount – of which was heavily opposed by
progressive forces. Secondly, Sandros grandfather, Ferdinand Marcos, is just like
Crisostomos grandfather, Don Saturnino. Both are very wealthy, well-known and
distinguished men. They are both powerful and have connections with powerful men as well
especially in the political atmosphere of the Philippines. Thirdly, like Crisostomo, Sandro was
also sent to Europe to live in the United Kingdom in his early years to study. He studied in
Oxford Brookes in UK and now earns a masters degree from London School of Economics
and Political Science. Fourthly, while Crisostomo is known to be a very fluent and articulate
person in many languages, Sandro is as well very fluent and articulate in both Tagalog and
English. Fifthly, women or young girls of his age, swoon over Sandro just like the women did
for Crisostomo. Lastly, Sandro share very similar qualities with Crisostomo. He is also very
physically healthy and fit, with Foreign-like features but Filipino-colored skin and carries
himself with an air of prestige and confidence. Nonetheless, he remains to be humble,
respectful, and well-educated.
Simuon
 Simoun (El Filibusterismo) He is Juan Crisostomo
Ibarra of Noli Me Tangere in disguise. He fled to
Cuba where he became rich and consequently
befriended many Spanish officials. Unlike Ibarra in
Noli, he is now vigilant; he now embodies the
Filipinos who had had enough of the cruelties of the
Spaniards. •Outwardly, he is a friend of Spain, but
deep in his heart, he is bitter and ruthless, secretly
planning a revolution against the Spanish
authorities.

Kabataan Partylist
Kabataan Partylist is Simoun in today's society.
Kabataan Party-list, formerly "Ang Nagkakaisang
Kabataan Para sa Sambayanan"is a party-list in the
Philippines affiliated with the leftist political party
Makabayan. It represents the interests of the youth
sector in the Philippine Congress and is composed of
different youth groups all over the country.•It aims to
"galvanize the Filipino youths unity for social
change,"believing that the youth should "devote its
intellect, energy, and courage to building a new
society devoid of corruption, inequality, and social
injustice."
Elias

Elias is a fugitive fighting against the

authorities. Towards the end of the novel,
he becomes the heroes sidekick.

Ramon Bautista has got to be in it. We think

he can relate to the character because hes
been poking fun at the Establishment for
some time. But, of course, Bautista believes in
using humor to do so. Were pretty sure he
wont be taking any hostages or tossing a
grenade to prove his point.
Maria Clara
Maria Clara is the sweetheart of Crisóstomo Ibarra,
the hero of Noli Me Tangere. She is the daughter of Pia
Alba. Though she thinks that Don Santiago de los
Santos or Capitan Tiago is her father, her real
progenitor is actually Padre Damaso. Though Maria
Clara is portrayed as a silent and passive character,
one has to admire her tenacity when it came to
finding out the truth about her mother being raped by
the friar.

Shalani Soledad is an expert at saying it best

by saying nothing at all. She also has a
complicated relationship with her own father.
Donya Victorina
Doña Victorina is Filipina who mimics Spanish ladies by
putting on heavy white makeup. One could say that
she wants a major makeover. She had many admirers
when she was young but she didnt pick any of them
because she wanted to be married to a Spaniard. Later
on, when she had no other choice, she hooked up with
Don Tiburcio de Espadaña, who is 10 years younger
than she is.

Vicki Belo is certainly the countrys makeover queen.

Shes made herself over and has made money
making over many others. She also hooked up with a
younger man.
Kapitan Tiago
A Filipino socialite and well-respected member of the countrys wealthy
elite. Close with high-ranking clergy members like Father Salví and
Father Dámaso, Captain Tiago is one of the richest property owners in
Manila and San Diego. He is concerned with making sure his daughter,
María Clara, marries an affluent man with ample social capital, which
is one of the reasons he so quickly abandons his support of Ibarra
when the friars disgrace the young mans name. As for his own
disgrace, Captain Tiago is not actually María Claras biological father—
rather, his wife had an affair with Father Dámaso before dying in
childbirth. This is perhaps why he is so concerned with keeping up the
appearance of respectability, for his own wife dishonored him. As
such, he is blind to the vapid posturing of people like Doctor de
Espadaña, a fraudulent doctor for rich people, and his wife, Doña
Victorina, an obvious social climber. When they present their nephew
Linares as a possible new match for María Clara, Captain Tiago is
quick to assent, thinking that such a pairing will ensure respectability .
Basilio
Crispíns older brother, who is also training to be a sexton. When
Crispín is dragged away, Basilio tries to find him unsuccessfully.
Despite the towns curfew, he runs home to his mother and spends
the night there, telling her that the next day he will seek out Ibarra
and ask if he can work for him instead of training to be a sexton.
This never transpires, though, because the Civil Guard comes
looking for him and his brother. Basilio escapes from this mothers
house and into the forest, where he lives with a kind family until
Christmas Eve, when he goes looking for Sisa. Upon finding her, he
discovers that she has gone crazy with grief and is unable to
recognize him. He follows her back into the woods, where she
eventually dies after finally understanding that he is her son.
Sisa
Sisa is a laundrywoman who is married to a no-
good cockfighting aficionado named Pedro
who, from time to time, also hurts her
physically. She has two sons: Basilio and
Crispin. She goes insane when her sons go
missing.

Kris Aquino can certainly relate to this character.

She's dealt with not-good-for-her men and has
done things most people would consider insane.
Just like Sisa, she also has two sons. orror flicks,
we already know she's got what it takes to let out
deranged screams.
Padre Damaso
Padre Damaso is a hypocritical priest who is totally
against encouraging critical thinking. He promotes the
Churchs doctrines, even as he continutes to be cruel
to the people around him. Hey, lets not forget he
raped Maria Claras mom.

Pope benedict IX
He was the nephew of his immediate predecessor, John XIX. In October
1032, Benedict's father obtained his election through bribery. However,
his reputed dissolute activities provoked a revolt on the part of the
Romans. Benedict was driven out of Rome and Sylvester III elected to
succeed him. Some months later, Benedict and his supporters managed
to expel Sylvester. Benedict then decided to abdicate in favor of his
godfather, Gregory VI, provided he was reimbursed for his expenses.
Benedict subsequently had second thoughts and returned, and
attempted to depose Gregory. A number of prominent clergymen
appealed to King Henry III of Germany to restore order. Henry and his
forces crossed the Brenner Pass into Italy, where he summoned the
Council of Sutri to decide the matter. Benedict, Sylvester, and Gregory
were all deposed. Henry then had Clement II elected in December 1046.
Padre Florentino
Padre Florentino is the only Indio priest mentioned
in El Filibusterismo, since most Indios end up as
priests' assistants. He used to be considered
charming and happy, and was part of a rich family
and his mother forced him to enter the seminary
(because of her friendship with the archbishop).

Pope Francis is the head of the Catholic Church and

sovereign of the Vatican City State. Francis is the
first pope to be a member of the Society of Jesus,
the first from the Americas, the first from the
Southern Hemisphere, and the first pope from
outside Europe since Gregory III, a Syrian who
reigned in the 8th century.
Make a list of statement
dealing with nationalism
from Noli Me Tangere
and El filibusterismo
and be able to explain
it in your own words
“In the Philippines you are not considered to be
honorable unless you have been to jail.”

 You will not be respected, understood and

appreciated until you did something that will make
you recognized no matter how good or bad it is.
People won't appreciate you and accept you. They
will judge you, gossip about you and lie just to drag
you down. No matter what you do, either fight or not,
you will always be the loser.
‘”Nalilimot ng bawat isa sa inyo na habang napag-
iingatan ang isang bayan ang kaniyang wika,
napag-iingatan din nito ang katibayan ng
kaniyang paglaya, katulad ng pagpapanatili ng
isang tao sa kaniyang kasarinlan, upang
mapanatili niya ang kaniyang sariling paraan ng
pag-iisip. Ang wika ang pag-iisip ng bayan.”

We always forgot the value of ourselves. We always

chose others’ over our own country. To the point that
someday we can’t even call ourselves a Filipino.
“The glory of saving a country doesn't mean having
to use the measures that contributed to its ruin!”

 We can’t say that we saved our country just because

of the little help that we lend when we are the one
who originally participated to its ruin.
"I want to show to those who deprive people the
right to love of country, that when we know how to
sacrifice ourselves for our duties and convictions,
death does not matter if one dies for those one
loves—for his country and for others dear to him."

 For me, it is like “ I want to show the world that our love
for our own country is replaceable by none. Because
not all people has the love for their own country. Some
people are greedy of money and power and those
people are the those who didn’t have a chance to
feel the love of his country. that those people who feel
it have the courage to fight for his country and read to
die for it.

“Let us not ask for miracles, let us not ask for
concern with what is good for the country of him
who comes as a stranger to make his fortune and
leave afterwards.”

 We don’t need for a miracle to happen before we

take action. We don’t need other people’s concern
to improve our own. Let us do everything we can to
develop our own country and don’t just take it for
granted. We study and learnt so much then after that?
Many Filipinos chose to leave their country in order to
gain and achieve things. They forget that their own
country also needs them.
