SAMPLE PROBLEMS IN ANOVA:

PROBLEM 1: MEAT LOAF DINNER PROBLEM

Null hypothesis: There is no significant difference in the mean dinner sold per day between the three
restaurants.

Alternative hypothesis: There is a significant difference in the mean dinner sold per day between the
three restaurants.

Alpha level of significance: 0.05, Aynor: 4, Loris: 4, Lander: 5

Test statistic: ANOVA (F-test)/One-way Analysis of Variance

Decision Rule: Reject the null if Fc>Ftab/p-value <0.05; otherwise fail to reject the null.

Computation:

Decision: Since the p-value (0.0000187) <0.05, reject the null hypothesis.

Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the mean dinner sold per day between the three
restaurants. Katy can now include the new meat loaf dinner in the menu of her restaurants.

PROBLEM 2: CATALYST PROBLEM

Null hypothesis: There is no significant difference in the mean level of concentration.

Alternative hypothesis: There is a significant difference in the mean level of concentration

Alpha level of significance: 0.05, level 1=5, level 2=4, level 3=3, level 4=4

Test statistic: ANOVA (F-test)/One-way Analysis of Variance

Decision Rule: Reject the null if Fc>Ftab/p-value <0.05; otherwise fail to reject the null.

Computation:

Decision: Since the p-value (0.001709) < 0.05, reject the null hypothesis.

Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the mean level of concentration. This means that the level
of a catalyst has an effect on the concentration of a component in a liquid solution.
