CSTP 4: Planning Instruction

and Designing Learning
Experiences for All Students
4.1   Use knowledge of students’ academic readiness, language proficiency,
cultural background, and individual development to plan instruction
 Level of Development: Exploring

 I am a virtual teacher of the visually impaired and I interview

students to find out about their interests and I try to incorporate

my findings into my sessions. I also fill out a back-to-school
survey with them.
 Date: July 14, 2023

 Evidence:  student survey I use this survey to gain

knowledge about my students and use the information to

design lesson plans.

4.2   Establish and articulate goals for student learning

 Level of Development: Exploring
 As a virtual teacher of the visually impaired, I align my goals with

the Expanded Core Curriculum, and I discuss the IEP goals with
my students.
 Date: July 14, 2023

 Evidence: https://www.tsbvi.edu/programs/ecc As a virtual

teacher of the visually impaired, I refer to the Expanded Core

Curriculum to write goals and discuss all IEP goals with my
students.
 4.3   Develop and sequence long-term and short-term instructional
plans to support student learning

 Level of Development: Exploring

 As a virtual teacher of the visually impaired, I refer to the
Expanded Core Curriculum for guidance about which lesson plan
is appropriate. I do informal and formal assessments and then I
teach the lesson and then check for understanding.
 Date: July 14, 2023

 Evidence: https://www.tsbvi.edu/programs/ecc This is a

link to the Expanded Core Curriculum. It includes all the the

areas of need that I teach on a virtual basis.

4.4   Plan instruction that incorporates appropriate strategies to meet

the learning needs of all students.
 Level of Development: Exploring
 I plan a variety of different activities that include progressing

through the Braille code. After students learn a few high interest
Braille letters, have them move onto CVC words like ball, call, cat,
dog...etc.
 Date: July 14, 2023

 Evidence: CVC braille word This is a slide of one Braille CVC

words that has each Braille letters broken into a cell to help
isolate each letter. I created this lesson on my phone and
my student learned to read (for the first time) CVC words.
 4.5   Adapt instructional plans and curricular materials to meet the
assessed learning needs of all students.
 Level of Development: Exploring
 I provided the necessary scaffolding for students to succeed. I

work to challenge student’s knowledge and promote

independence through effective lessons in the Expanded Core
Curriculum.
 Date:  July 14, 2023
 Evidence: transcribed I transcribed the student’s Braille
and sent it back to him so he could correct his errors. The
student was used to not correcting his work because no one
could transcribe it. The student improved quickly when he
knew someone was reading it.
