Dear Sir/Madam
N.B.
It is worth noting that the industrial training course that is being offered to the above
mentioned student is a core course that carries four (4) credit units.
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology does not only appreciate training that is
being offered by the industry, but also the direct involvement by the Industrial
Training Supervisors in grading our students’ continuous assessment.
The student’s continuous assessment entails signing of the log book on a daily or
weekly basis and completion of the confidential report forms towards the end of the
attachment period.
We request the Industrial Training Supervisor or the Contact Person to fax or mail
the confidential reports to the Industrial Training Coordinator, preferably before the
end of the attachment period.
Please note that we request your company to do the following for the students’ training
requirements:
(a) To provide the student(s) with adequate experience, to an agreed work programme
between your company and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
(b) To appoint a senior member of your staff as the Company Industrial Training Supervisor
who will be responsible for directing and encouraging the student(s).
(c) To facilitate periodic visits by the student’s own Departmental Industrial Training
Supervisor.
It is also important to mention that students are normally paid subsistence allowance by
their respective sponsors. However, should any company feel obliged to pay student(s)
subsistence allowance, it would be at the company’s own discretion and this would be
appreciated very much for the welfare of the student(s).
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology has a well laid down policy aimed at briefing
students on industrial training related matters prior to the commencement of the industrial
attachment. Inter alia, students are always strongly advised to comply with company
policies, regulations, procedures, codes of practice and also encouraged to be initiative,
work hard, and interact well with company employees at location of placement.
The University of Botswana has a twenty four (24) hour Personal Accident cover for
the students through Mercantile Insurance Brokers for the following limits:
The above Personal Accident cover applies to students at places of attachments and during
the academic sessions.
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology also ensures that students are provided with
safety clothing prior to the commencement of industrial attachment, which is one of the
basic requirements of the engineering industry, amongst others, that has to be met.
Should you need any additional information or clarification in this regard, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
Yours faithfully
Vincent M Selema
ASSISTANT INDUSTRIAL TRAINING COORDINATOR
